*Unofficial *Unauthorized * Non-Custom Post with *No Progress

So I'm pretty disgusted with my vinyl not sticking to the top dash piece and decided to rip it all off. I keep fixing it despite being sick of working on this car. So, I'm doing what I should have done right from the start and just painted it. My question is; what color should I go with? The base of the dash is graphite, the center piece with the stereo is silver. This is rarely driven (200 miles in '06) so I don't care how much glare there is, I can throw a towel over it to go somewhere.

Here are the old pics to refresh your memories.

I have no idea of what color, but what are all the switches for?
and nice spot for the heater controls., I like that everything gets hidden,
I would want to have a video screen that gets hidden under a fake hvac unit, who would think it would be there, it would be very bond like, haha

a very different set up, not my style, but very cool

what were you using to secure the vinyl? i definately suggest contact cement! had my dash wrapped in 4 or 5 different fabrics without an issue

I would hate to attempt to drive that car for real with that steering wheel...but nice custom dash.

We have tried Select Products vinyl glue, 3m Super Trim Adhesive, and carpet cement, but they always release and show a wrinckle here or there.

I like the steering wheel and have no plans to change it. It is actually much easier to drive compared to the oversized Cavalier wheels....and as I've mentioned many times: in Pa you are not permitted to remove or alter the airbag, at least according to the Trooper I questioned. But I'm sure I'm cooked on 10 other things if I get pulled over anyhow....that is if I can even get this car inspected this year thanks to Gov. Rendell.

Anyone know of a good paint that matches the SEM graphite vinyl dye? I did the top dash in that, and I have spray marks everywhere after repainting it 3 times... I repainted all the lite grey interior parts with Krylon and it looks wonderful. I'm hoping someone knows if one of their colors matches the graphite???

Since Auto & Audio retired I lost access to my body man, I have to do the finishing work myself and discovered I suck at it.

could go for some texture to match the interior plastic then head to a auto paint supply store they should have paint that matches the oem color graphite, (will likely have to be ordered in.

I would like to spray it right, but I don't have a gun.

What do you mean it needs more to it? What should I ad / what's it missing?

How hard is that steering wheel to use? That would be a bit of a pain if you took the car to autox. lol. Looks good though. Like the speakers under the dash, by your feet. Thinking about doing similar. Dont know yet.

car looks awesome man. i would stay with a paint that's the same color as the vinyl was. i think it would look strange if you changed the color.

my car has passed a PA inspection for the past 2+ years with a tenzo steering wheel and a momo hub as have many other people i know.

from what i recall seeing in the inspection codes, your steering wheel is far more illegal than any aftermarket steering wheel...

as for the dash, i'd do a black of some sort (gloss, metallic, etc)

I was inclined to believe the state trooper because our body man at Auto & Audio is licensed for inspection, and the inspection code says you can't mess with the air bag.....so my argument was that the air bag is intact, and hopefully they don't ask about the passenger side.

Anyone have a nice steering wheel for sale?
