1999 Cavalier "Z22", Pictures!

Well, my search for a 2 door J-Body finally ended wednesday. Picked up a Red 99' Chevy Cavalier "Z22". Pretty well a base model, nothing too special about it. I actully attempted to tint it last night, but after trying one corner window, I knew I had to get some pro's to do it  Getting it tinted this coming weekend hopefully, and my Pioneer 6x9's will be in the rear dash any day now. Has a pretty decent JVC Head Unit, I have to keep the built in amp on low power, which limits it at 30 rather than 50, because after 30 the stock speakers would probably crap out in about 5 minutes  I think it's an awesome first car, plus it fits my payments  Only has 88,000 KM's on it too, which was a big plus. Power Steering has been fixed, had it in the garage today, perfect now. Here's some pictures I snapped today:

And this is my driveway now

As for future plans for it, this is what I have in mind for now:

By Winter:
-New Heads, Tails, and Corners (not completly sure yet, wants to find something that'll look good)
-New Front 4x6 Pioneer Speakers
-Misc. Small Interior Things

By Spring:
-Catback Exhaust System
-Twin Subs with a Monoblock Amp
-Rims

Eventully:
-Power Windows and Locks
-1" or 2" Drop, with KYB's
-Better Seats

I'll keep you all updated with pics as progress continues Let me know what you think.

Get ready for the flaming.

"Z22" isn't a "REAL" trim model. Just decals that dealers put on a car to jack the price up more...

I would take them off to avoid any further embarrassment.

As for the car, looks like you have a good idea of what to do with it.

I know it's not actully a trim level, that's why the " " are around it, it was just a dealer sticker, like Sunfire GTX's. I think the only extra on this car is the tach on the cluster. I'll probably just wait for a paint job rather than try and haul the stickers off. I thought I'd get some Flak for having the Z22 in the title, but oh well. Yes, I am aware of the rust by the gas tank, most used J-bodys have that, and I may get that touched up, depending if it sticks out like a sore thumb from the original paint or not. The car is in excellent condition for a 99, only that rust spot, one or 2 small dings, a few small scratches, and some small, nearly un-noticable rust around the side skirts. Hopefully I can stick to my timeline for the mods

Has it been undercoated? You should fix the rust, and get it rust checked, since things tend to rust to hell in Newfoundland. I know, lived there for 7 years.

your ''all to powerfull" jvc HU aint going to crap out your stock speakers unless u turn it up so high they clip, the output aint much more than stock.
pioneer speakers have a tendancy to blow as well.

Gearstix, rustproofing will be done this fall I would think. Don't we know about rust here on the rock
Z Yaaaa, My JVC HU is plenty for me, and my speakers start to clip at like 40 or so on the HU, which the limiter for low power is at 30, and horribly distorted after 32 or so. In my eyes, Pioneer is a good brand at a price that won't put a hole in the bottom of your wallet. I don't have the money for Alpine, but I got sense enough not to go Sony!

When I had stock speakers I ran 50 amps through every day no problems. Pioneers are good but I got fed up with the sound quality so I switched to JVC and I love them but I heard some infinity kappas yesterday in a friends car, so I might end up getting those. But if you have the pioneers already put them and for 4 by 6 look into the infinity reference I use them and there amazing for the price.

First mod should be getting those stickers off. You don't need to wait for paint. Just warm them up with a hairdryer on low and catch the edge with your nail until you can grab it. Once you warm it up, it should peel just fine.

It reminds me of the bogus "RS" package I got with my car -- otherwise that's exactly what I started with. Gotta love dealer rice.

they shouldhave atleast given the "z22" & the "rs" a sport appearance package, just with he 2.2 motor, hence the "z22".... would have atleast made more sence... leave it to GM.. lol

car looks like a nice start, good luck with it

and i wouldnt worry so much about your stock speakers... i have 2, 10" alpine typeR subs 1000W (500 rms) and a 1500w alpine v12 amp and pioneer head unit... and my stock speakers still sound fine... lol
