Well, I decided to paint the car again this year. I'm sure not many people will remember, but I painted it last spring. I'm still learning, so it was pretty flawed. When I started prepping the car this year, I was just going to go back to stock and do a cheap repaint. Then, my buddy talked me into keeping my ground effects, then a hood, then shaving everything. lol. So this is my winter project and where I am at with it so far. Feel free to comment. I'd also like to know if anybody sees anything that they feel could be done more efficiently as far as fab and body work. Oh yeah, thanks to Joey Baggs for the help with the gas door information,
here is the car all torn down getting fixed. Before anybody asks, I'm not pulling the windows.
then the next day i gutted out the gas door and welded in my patch panel. I suck at remembering to take pictures, but here are a couple of it all filled. I just made a template out of paper and traced it onto the mild steel patch. It worked pretty good, but there was some warping. I came up with a much better idea by the time i shaved the drivers door. Anyways, heres a couple pics of that.
at that point it there was no turning back on the gas door so I started relocating. Here are some pics of the stock filler neck cut in half.
Then it was time for the good ol' holesaw. I went down to carquest to order some metal ones and they wanted 75 bucks for the two sizes I needed. Luckily I found somebody to loan my them instead. Here are the holes.
then I mocked up my filler neck
the filler neck thru the fenderwell wasn't really lining up that well, so I just cut it shorter and ran the hose thru the hole. We used a peice of vacuum line for a grommet so the hose wouldn't get chewed up. The hose I used is the the stuff the gas trucks fill up the gas stations with. Its about an inch thick of rubber with an inch innner diameter. talk about hardcore. lol. Well this is the peice welded in.
then I seam sealed the holes, and undercoated the relocation and the rear fender well. Here is the finished product.
Tomorrow I'll get some pictures of the shaved doors and hopefully me putting in the door poppers. I've been waiting for a couple weeks for them.
That's exactly how I did mine 2 years ago... except I used all the stock piping... Looks nice and clean now!
Nice man.

question, with your exhaust pipe directly under neath the hose would you run into problems from the heat or no?
Lanman31337 -F = fatties = do not want. A little chunk in the junk is ok though.
get a different exhaust system man! u don't want the hard work up in flames! or even die from your own work.

very good lookin project. plan on shaving the doors too? and what color will it be when you are done?
coming back in 2008...
good thinking on the exhaust. i'll have to check the distance when I'm over there tomorrow. I have a feeling it looks a lot closer then it is.
very nice.

I honestly can't pick anything yet. I'm really leaning towards a classy 2 tone though.

let him do what he wants....doesn't matter what the "trend" is.
haha

didn't you read, there arn't any trends everyone just happens to do the exact same thing they like, at the exact same time as everyone else.
haha good comment that made me laugh cuz it seems so true.
You don't have to get new exhaust or anything like that just make a heat shield and you'll be just fine.

black and silver or gunmetal would be nice. i like just a plain black though. or, since you are painting it yourself, have some fun and lay some flake as a design under it then paint black over it. instant ghost design
coming back in 2008...
i dunno about green flames....pink would definitly be hot though
I think flake would be cool, but I would be a little nervous with that. I've sprayed some metallic before, but i'm not sure about my skills as far as making designs and what-not.
On a different note, I got my door poppers today, and my hood comes tomorrow. woot. I also checked the exhaust out. Its probably not going to be a problem. Theres a lot of room there. Maybe I'll do some kind of heat shield just in case. Thanks for the idea tyler. I snapped a couple pics of the doors today. As soon as I upload them I'll post. I'm also shaving the side markers out of the rear bumper. So far I cut a patch and I was planning on plastic welding, then filling. Does anybody have any other ideas?
Love it, but yeah something should be done about the exhaust, that does look a lil too close for comfort.

looks good dude....keep updating your pics and I have to agree with some of the other guys...I think you should do a single color or some crazy graphics/design.
updates....woot
well heres what i've been up to guys.
doors shaved and nearly filled
I put a little filler on the filler neck...the grinder marks where pretty bad, so it needed something.
then I started prepping the rear bumper and ran into all kinds of fun stuff. Apparently it was repaired, and very poorly at that, before I got the car. There is quite a bit of filler in the corners and a crack under one of the fog lights. I'm going to go through and fix the old filled areas, fix the crack on the back, and shave the side markers. Heres a few pics of where I am at with that.
and then something very exciting happened. I got to put my doors and fenders back on. We didn't get everything 100% aligned yet, but after straightening the pinch weld, then fenders are lining up much much better,
and now that i am completely exhausted with body work, I decided to do the door poppers. Heres a picture of everything sprawled out when we started.
I got everything wired up today and its almost 100%. I need to do a little more adjustment on the pass door, but the driver one is working great. That is an awesome feeling. I probably popped the door 20 times this morning. lol
