official smokeyoa$$ thread
Monday, February 11, 2008 10:44 AM
well after a recent string of bad luck ive come to the conclusion that i need to either trade the cav or completly reconstruct it.
first it popped out of gear in a parking lot and rolled into a curb, destroying the front bumper, then it got broken into, power steering quit
working for no reason the other day, no leaks or noises it just stopped. then this morning on my way to my girls house i hit a hump in the
road that knocked off my side skirt and sent it flying under a big ass truck. i didn't even bother to go back for it. i saw it shatter into a million peices
in my mirror. i just wanna cry!
well heres the pics

I'd have to agree, its looking pretty rough around the edges...

A total exterior overhaul would definitely be in my game plan if I were going to keep it, but... Not trying to bad talk you but it looks like you lost interest a long time ago before you ever finished the car. Given that I think you'd be happiest with something entirely different.

Me personally, I'd scrap the whole front end and start over.

I like the hood and lights, but I agree that it's either time for a change or time to overhaul. Might be more cost effective to start over with another J and hang on to this one for parts?

thats sucks about the bumper and side skirt...too bad it wasn't that but nasty hood that got messed up. i hated that hood on my car and i still hate it on other ones.

I am not trying to be an ass here but I am going to be straight up with you.

Trading it is going to be a bad idea because you are not going to get jack @!#$ out of your car. If you mod the next one the way you did this one you are going to be just as screwed as you are now.

The front bumper was hideous and looked like @!#$ anyway. You primered over red paint. You would be better off with stock parts anyway rather than a half asshack job you did on the body kit.

Come on man. Look at your car. Are you really surprised it got broken into. I know having your car broken into sucks. I hope who ever did it gets there ass beat and then held until the cops show up. It has happened to me many times before, but it comes with the teritory. You knew you just greatly increased the chance of it getting broken into by modding it. It is the life of having a car like that. You need to decide if it is worth it to you or not.

The power steering you can fix that is no biggie.

If sideskirts are put on properly they do not just fall off when you hit a bump. I doubt a stock sideskirt would have fallen off.

I am not trying to rag on you here just saying, maybe you should consider if driving a stock car is a better option for you since you aperently do not have the money to do things right and deal with the problems of a modded car. Sometimes it is kind of nice to just drive a car that has paint and peices do not fall off as you drive down the road and that you do not have to baby sit so it does not get broken into. If it were me I would fix that car and have the satisfaction of fixing my mistake however you might be able to buy another car for that price and save yourself the time and headache.

also not to be a ass or anything, but it would have been better if that hood flew off and got destroyed, not the side skirt.

i agree with the majority, i think a new car is in order.

Handmedown Cav no more... Not tryin to be a dick but you put the car together with old used parts, and never have done anything original (looks like you tried to build it to be a copy of Josh's old cav). I sold you the kit what? a few months ago? and it's already destroyed? My suggestion is to buy a beat up 4x4 truck because obviously you can't handle driving a small car.

dude i have to agree with these guys. the whole half assed car thing will only get you so far. but get rid of that hood, and next time you prime your car, do it right and take your skirts off first.

"I did it because I wanted to see what it would look like. You should be greatful that I even told you that it would look good. If your to dumb to use photoshop and change the color of your own car then you don't need to see it changed. I'm not going to give my work away. I'll sell the pic to you though for $15."-Adam Kalin

Time for a complete overhall. Here is your chance to make it look really good.
As for the power steering, pull the pump off, I have seen it a couple times where the shaft that goes into the cam snaps, if you have no leaks, that might be your problem.

I agree with the comment about it should have been the hood that came off.

It looks to me like you have two options:

1: Completely re-do the whole car the RIGHT way this time, and make it look good.
2: Get another one and use the few decent parts left on this thing...

"was a v8 guy and hated the whole tuner scene before i got this car. i had an 89 rs (apperantly stands for really slow)305 h.o./auto. it was totaled by a pizza boy and i needed a ride fast so i settled for the cav. i figured it would do till i could get another f-body. then it happend. some geek was chasing another z24 like mine out of a shopping center one night, trying to race but he got caught by a red light and couldn't catch 'em, i just happend to pull up at this particular light beside this guy. it was a green, mid 90's, 4 door accord, loud ass fart can and all. he started reving up and laughing at my stock ass car. so i figured i'd see what the cav would do, and iwas a little impressed at the ass whopping i gave em. slowly i fell in love with the z and i wouldn't trade it for @!#$ now. i might eventually buy another muscle car. but im keeping the cav."

please put the car back to stock and buy a 3rd gen firebird where the primer belongs

for real. my buddies and i were messing around a week or two before we painted my red z and we decided it would be funny to spray paint @!#$ all over it. well come sanding time that took forever to sand off....much more than the regular paint. i do not envy whoever has to sand that down.

coming back in 2008...

Something strange I noticed...My bumper is about that high off the ground, has been on for over a year now. I'm glad I understand that ground clearance is one of my main problems. Hell I drove the car all the way to IA and back, and to WI multiple times w/ little to no damage. Yeah there was a mishap w/ a pothole up in WI but nothing a lil fiberglass didn't fix, and the best part is...you can't tell. I'm not sure if I would slavage anything off of that car. Junk it and start over w/ something that can take a lil more abuse and punishment, I think someone suggested old beat up 4x4. From the looks of your car that's exactly what you need.
