Time for an UPDATE..............
Tuesday, March 11, 2008 10:44 PM
It started in 2002 with a Simple eXcelon X-915 HU

Then in Spring of 2003 I took my Flipdown Accellevision 7" monitor down and installed the monitor itself into the dash. I loved the color-matched bezel

In 2005 I took my monitor Completely apart and molded the actual shroud of the monitor to the dash bezel. The buttons all worked and it was now 1 piece instead of just sitting there. I shaved the 12volt plug off (mistake) and painted it silver metallic.

Well I sold my eXcelon Flipout DVD player, the silver dash is for sale and I am making a New Version 3.1 Dash Bezel. Now with the RETURN of the A/C vents and the 12volt plug!

This is the Screen I am using. It is a Kenwood KOS-L702 touchscreen Monitor. No CD player in the dash at all. JUST A SCREEN. It along with my KOS-V500 will have FULL control of my Kenwood KNA-G510 Garmin Navigation, 6 disc changer, BLUETOOTH, Music Keg, iPod Video via USB and DVD player and it has a built in AM/FM receiver in the V500.. The ONLY thing in the dash will be a Touchscreen monitor.

THE SCREEN

THE BRAIN

I went to the junk yard and got a new Dash bezel and A/C duct system to put my car back to the way it was.

These pics are from my phone. Sorry. Better pics with a 7.1 when it is all said and done.

I started by trimming the bezel to fit the Monitor shroud the way I wanted it.

I use CA glue from the Hobby store to hold the plastic in place. It is a 2 part super glue and once you spray the activator on it, IT IS DRY INSTANTLY!

I cut a piece of ABS plastic and glued it so the bottom of the Shroud had support and it was a SOLID bond. These pics you can see the small holes I drilled in the plasic for the filler to bond to. Also you can see that once I sanded the plastic and the shroud, they look seemless.

Here is what I stopped at tonight, it was getting late. The right side is just about ready for paint and the left side need minor sanding and shaping.

I'll update as I go. Also this will be painted to match the car, Indigo Blue Metallic.

Big thanks to Gary for helping me work on this afterhours tonight. - He convinced me to get my door panels out of my car and we are gonna completely remake the panel and have them painted as well. From there the rear of the car will get a treatment of GLASS WORK.

Meanwhile I have about a month or so till my car can come out of storage, once that happens I will begin the installation of MANY MANY parts I have collected over the winter months including the S/C!

Gary is going to help me get my car where I need it to be, he has done MANY Fiberglass installs. To see some of his work you can go to His Myspace page

So like I ssaid, updates as I go which should be VERY SOON, I would like to have this piece to my buddy to have it painted in the body shop by Saturday.

Love it! Though I've heard some pretty bad things about Kenwood. How are they holding up for you?

I've only used Kenwood eXcelon cd players etc. for the past 12 years. I love em!

My other 12volt socket is on the right side of the center console, I actually use it from time to time and not having it in reach is a pain. I usuallly only use it for my cell phone if I'm on a road trip, but to have my phone plugged in on the passenger side floor area is too much of a hassle.

Thanks for the comments, I am going to sand the rest of the panel today and post up some good pics later.

I LIED! My G/F left the camera at her work, so here are the crappy update pics. Sorry.

I sprayed a very light coat of flat black to show my imperfections, then sanded it some more. After that I sprayed another very light coat and it was time to go home.

Here is the progress.

I have 2 very tiny spots I need to sand a little more. After that it will be off to the body shop for paint.

I am going to my storage unit tomorrow and bringing the door panels to the shop to start those. No more pods. Complete door panels.

Also, I may be switching from JL AUDIO to Hertz and Audison. That is a MAYBE. I love my chrome amps, so we'll have to see.

I've been EXTREMELY BUSY lately and the bezel has been in my backseat of the car sitting and enjoying the ride. Well I finally had some time to drop it off to my painter yesterday. Should be done soon, hopefully by this weekend, he is doing it in his spare time for me.

I'll post up pics as soon as I get it back.

Hehe I remember when you did some of those things. Nice work and good luck with the new setup . The car looks great as always. Did you get rid of the blue tinted tails or do you still have them? I think I read that you got rid of them but I don't remember.
