I got tired of my current exhaust setup and decided that I’d try something a little different. I’ve had that dynomax superturbo muffler on my setup for over a year, that’s the longest I’ve ever stuck with anything. I usually changed mufflers every couple of months because I couldn’t find the perfect sound. I tried something a little different this time. I picked up a single chambered muffler from performance curve. The muffler is only 9 inches long and it fit exactly where I wanted it to and then I finished off the setup with a Megan Racing N1 muffler. Right now my setup consists of the pacesetter lsj header, 2.5” DP, Magnaflow 94036 cat, 28” thrush resonator, Performance Curve single chamber muffler, and a Megan Racing N1 fartcan. Everything pretty much lined up exactly where I wanted it to. The muffler has the slight upward and outward angle that I wanted. It’s exactly how I wanted it to look. The sound on the other hand, I forgot how loud straight through mufflers were lol. It actually idles a little more quiet than the dynomax, but holy hell is it loud when you get on it. It’s got a very low tone to it, almost like a v6 grand am. The throttle response feels a little bit smoother, but I’m sure that’s all in my head. It also pulls a slight bit harder up top.
The IF front is almost done. It’s back in the garage getting ready for the arrival of some Fusor and some pieces from a stock bumper. When I’m done, it should look like the bumper was made for the 00-02 lights.
Anyway, here are some pics and a quick vid.

clean as fizzuck.. nice fitting.. looks great
i really like those rims on there.. kinda in a way rimind me of stock 2g eclips rims but better
but good job on exhaust looks purfect keep it up
at what point does it become pointless to try and be better then stock? you have 4 restrictions in there, stock has 3.
i realize you want 'that perfect sound' but IMO, only a tad louder then stock or completely stock is 'that perfect sound' because lets face it, 4 bangers sound like crap when opened up.
Riddle me this... riddle me that...
I was a bit confused wirth the 2 muffler idea but what do i know. I know what i think tho, and I think that anyone buying a kit other than the original import fighter kit is nuts. I looks so clean yet so agressive, VERY nice looking car man.
awesome!!! when did you switch back to the IF front?
Getting "better built" for the '08...

I'd hardly consider any of those mufflers a restriction, but I guess that's open to interpretation. Our opinions of "perfect sound" differ. There's a specific tone/sound that I'm looking for. Hopefully I find it. I'll agree with you, 4 bangers do sound like crap when opened up. I'm finally happy with how the car looks, and now it's time to take care of how the car sounds. The blower whine in the front is great, but the sound coming out the back end just wasn't making me happy. I can't really enjoy driving the car if I don't like how it sounds. Some people are very picky with exterior/interior detailing, I'm just picky when it comes to exhaust sounds. I'm determined to make the car sound good. If I have to try different muffler combos, then so be it. I actually enjoy crawling around under there and welding stuff up. I love my cheap $120 welder that I got from Harbor Freight 4 years ago. The welds may not be pretty, but they get the job done.

I've had the idea kicking around inside my head for about 6 months now and since the insides of the dynomax muffler started rattling, I figured it was time to give it a shot.

not too long ago. I picked up this one from Mastin as well.
Sorry andy, but not feeling the look. It seems like a pretty cool design, and Im sure its not very restrictive. If I were gona go with a cannon style muffler Id go with a greddy ti.
Cars looking great though!
Fartcan FTL
But the car itself looks amazing!
color me confused, IS this louder then stock? i dont see really how it could be. maybe a TAD....
Riddle me this... riddle me that...
Keep at it until you find something you like. Your car can sort of be my gunie pig. I like what you have now ...I think.
Is there any way you could do me a huge favor and make a drive by video. Preferably from like 20mph in second gear full throttled until you have to shift into third.
I am very picky about the sound of my exhaust. In fact right now I still have the stock muffler because I do not want to ruin the sound of the supercharger. Most 4cyl non turbo exhaust do sound like crap IMO. I have toyed with the idea of the Dynomax super turbo and a giant resonator, a magnaflow and a giant resonator, a walker quiet flow...
FORGET GIRLS GONE WILD WE HAVE GOVERNMENT SPENDING GONE WILD!
I think it would have been much better with a polished stainless magnaflow or dynomax ultra flo polished stainless oval muffler with a tip like this:
I've heard good things about the Moroso Spiral Flow as far as making thing quieter and sound good...
I miss her^

His car is an auto.
Im putting my exhaust on by next week. It will consist of a stans 4-2-1 header, catco cat, 12" dynomax bullet race muffler, custom tubes piping, and either a flowmaster 40 which I have or I may get a dynomax st, all is 2.5".
looking good, hope you like the sound...
I want to know how you got your muffler tucked in the bumper like that...
I'm really interested in seeing the bumper when you're done.

Find me a place that sells just Greddy mufflers. That's the muffler that I originally wanted, but no Greddy dealers would sell just the muffler, and there was no way in hell that I was gonna drop $600 on a Greddy catback just for the muffler. I remember the vid of Ed's car with that muffler. It sounded good.

It's just as quiet as stock at idle. It's dead quiet when cruising, but it gets wicked loud when you stomp on it. However, it's nowhere near as loud as the blower whine.

I'll try and get a few drive by clips at some point today. I can still hear the blower whine clear as day with this setup.

I do have an oval magnaflow on the way, I had some summit giftcards sitting around, so I figured what the hell. This is gonna be one of those trial and error type of things until I get the right sound. I usually hate the look of fartcans, but when they're tucked up right, they can look pretty good. I'll probably end up going through a variety of mufflers throughout the month of june until i get that perfect sound.

Rob was nice enough to hack up the stock bumper that he had and send me the pieces that I need. I can't wait to get started on that project. The exhaust note is like the last piece of the puzzle before I'm 100% satisfied with this car. Although braided stainless brake lines and neon rear discs are still on the list of things to do this summer.

It sounds OK now, not entirely the way I want it to. It will get there eventually. The muffler is right up against the impact bar in the rear. It also has a little bit to do with how the piping is routed as well.

You and me both. I can't wait til I finally finish it up.

Did you fab your own 2.5" downpipe? I've been looking all over for a bolt on solution, but there doesn't seem to be one for the eco. At this point I'd settle for just the little S bend before the cat. For what its worth, i think it sounds great...
Did you teach yourself to weld? I know those harbor freight deals are tempting.
I know its a tough angle to get, but if you get a chance could you post pics of the DP and basically the cat forward?
I checked ebay cause I remembered seeing people selling them on there, I couldnt find any single mufflers but there are real greddy Ti-c cat/axlebacks for different imports for under $300 shipped. You could get the muffler and sell the piping or scrap it or whatever and get some extra money out of it. I remember hearing Ed's car with it and sounded amazing even n/a, I had the muffler but decided not to use it and gave it to my friend lol. If I ever were to put a cannon style muffler on it would definitely only by one of those.
I understand being picky about the exhaust note, Ive had 3 different headers, 2 different cats,no cat and a glasspack, and a few mufflers. Ive kind of zoned it out now that Im sc'd lol, and just wana quiet it down yet still flow realy well which is what Im hoping my new parts will do.

yep, fabbed it up with a 45 degree bend of 2.5" piping. I taught myself to weld. I did get some advice and tips from a few friends which helped in the learning process as well. I can try and snap a pic of the DP and cat area. I have to crawl under there anyway and swap out the clamp that I have which connects my downpipe to my cat anyway. I'll try and remember to do that while I'm under there.
I like the setup.. I'm looking to do this but I have stock piping and no welder..
