My Daily Driven Sleeper

Here is a daily driver which is "all go and no show".

It appears completely stock on the exterior, save for the lowered stance and the intercooler.

Inside is not much different with only three aftermarket gauges and a roll cage.

Under the hood is a different story in itself.

This setup includes the turbo and intercooler package that JTuners used to offer and installed as well.

Garrett T60 Turbo
SplitSec FTC1 Fuel Timing Computer
Custom Tubular Exhaust Manifold
Hallman PRO RX Boost Controller
TiAL Wastegate
Complete 2.5" Exhaust w/ Hi Flow Cat
Bosch BOV
RC Engineering 320CC Injectors
Spec Racing Clutch

What do you think about it? I kind of like the minimalist approach this cavy has. It's pretty funny when I smoke a honda in something that looks like a grandma car.

It is set at a conservative 5lbs. I drive about 100 miles per day and I don't want to risk slinging internals through the hood. Ha.

it's perfect. nice job

Paint the IC flat black for a little extra sleeperness.

I too enjoy your approach, but realistically how fast is it on 5psi right now?

how can you deem an OHV a sleeper? im sure its decently quick yes, but what are you 'sleeping' for? it wouldnt even touch that mustang behind it.

yep, its a sleeper all right, im asleep right now.

OHV's are very capable, Imphats0260's is pushing damn near 300whp on a stock block.

Edit: "My Daily Driven Decently Quick OHV" HaHa. You are correct sir, it wouldn't touch that mustang behind it. That GT has a turbo the size of one of my wheels under the hood. I don't race for pinks or anything, it is simply a fun to drive daily commuter car.

And yes, the car was on eBay a while back. Props go to the previous owner for the work for sure.

Yeah but he isn't just pushin 5psi is he?^^^^^^^ What the riddler is sayin is that it would beat that many cars, so you really cant call it much of a sleeper.

Anyways I like the car man keep up the good work!

LOVE IT!!!!! 2200 FOR THE WIN!!!!!

i'd do a little more, paint bumpers and simple sides and if possible somehow hide or make the intercooler blend in more because that just SCREAMS boost.. therefore not really making a great sleeper... but me likey

The thought of painting the intercooler did cross my mind at one point. What kind of paint would be best to use for that? I have noticed that some paints will flake off after some time.

I don't have any numbers that show how quick it is. From owning a stock OHV in the past though, there is a considerable difference. Just my .02. Although, I wouldn't mind having that Northstar swap that is posted in this forum. That guy is nuts...

Thanks.

The mustang belongs to the guy I bought the car from, Leo. He owned JTuners. I wanted very badly to drive that beast when we were looking at it. Im not even sure of the model turbo he had in it since I had never owned a boosted vehicle before, but man was it impressive.

BBQ paint? Can't say that I have ever tried that. It must taste better than the paint I have sampled in the past. Probably gives reason to my imbalanced nature.
Anyways, I will certainly try some out. Thanks for the tip, FstCavZ24.

BBQ paint or any high temp engine paint will do the trick, just scuff the cooler real good if you want it to stick and last. I've had great success with Duplicolor low-gloss black.

On second thought I'd love this car for a daily driver, I'm sure it's great on gas yes the spool allows you to have a bit of enjoyment without looking rediculous doing so.

Props.

did i say that they werent capable? even with 300whp, sleeper status wouldnt mean much. and imphats car has pnp tuning behind it, surely a lot of the reason why it puts down such good numbers.

i dont have problem one with a turboed 2.2 OHV, i think its great. it's just not what i would call a sleeper.

Wikipedia - A sleeper (US English) or Q-car (British English) is a car that has high performance and an unassuming exterior. Sleeper cars are termed such because their exterior looks little or no different from a standard or economy-class car (or in some cases worse due to seeming neglect on the owners part), but internally they are modified (or are built) to perform at higher levels.

By you saying that an OHV equiped car is unable to be a sleeper is just an ignorant statement to me. I bet his car is plenty fast as it's a light car with a good turbo kit on it. I guess it's just my personal opinion but I learned a long time ago that 2200's are actually very capable of being very fast. I think you can atleast say if you don't think it's a sleeper than it atleast has that potential if he increases the boost level.
