Clean and first show
Tuesday, June 10, 2008 2:43 PM
Finally took the Z out to a show. Originally i was just going to leave it at home since it doesnt run yet and has no interior, but at the last minute decided to clean it up and just trailer it. Didnt remember to take many pics since i spent a lot of time talking to people, explaining things and making a couple "business" contacts. The pics i do have are from when we just got there (quite early) and when we were leaving (after most others) but since i am happy with the car i figure i would post them anyway.

My buddies S-10 setup with a couple mini-kegs and a tapped cooler

looks nice but no matter how amazing the engine build or bay is, should always have a hood. it just looks tacky without one.

reason im saying this is because i remember you saying your not going to have a hood in your build thread.

so... exactly how many 'WHAT THE F***!?!??!*'s and 'oh my GOD''s did you get at the show?

Thanks for the comments!

I realize i need to do something about the headlights yet, but i dont have any other ones sitting around that i could throw in on short notice, so i guess these will do for now.

I think it will look fine when i get decent headlights in there along with the shaved cowl made, actually i rather like it already so i dont know if i will even set it up for a hood anymore.
There was a lot of interest between the engine and rear suspension, i ended up talking to people about it almost the entire day, and i now have a nice sunburn to prove it

The guys we hang out with (not really part of a crew) drive some really nice vehicles. When i was taking pics most hadn't shown up yet. Out of 10 or so vehicles we went with the s-10 in the pics was actually the only one who didnt take home an award.
As a side note the VW is running a high compression twin carbed 16V, and is basically stripped and caged.

how can you ruin such a beautiful car by not putting a hood on it?

Hood= +10, IMO, not having one is like saying hey I put all ths time into the engine swap, yet Im too lazy to figure out what hood to put on. OR "hey, this is my half assed car."

You should definetly put a hood on it, it would have such a badass sleeper effect when you finally opened the hood and people would be like wow, thats why I got shizz stomped by a cavi.

What if you had a clear hood or a section of it somehow, and had it tinted so you can see through but its not so blunt and obvious.

Car looks very nice & clean though.

I got a chuckle out of that I'm sure you didnt mean it personally so I wont take offence. I respect everyones opinion and appreciate them as they have been helpful in steering me the right way at times, but for now i love the way i looks, it's not really a subtle car anyway so why pretend? I would appreciate it if we could not turn this thread all about the lack of hood- i do actually have an invader but dont want to put it on right now.
Also there is no sleeper aspect to it, it runs a 3" exhaust that likely wont hide the fact there is something big in there. i dont do any racing on the street since there is just too much risk to make it worthwhile- i prefer to cruise and throw sparks with my minitruckin friends

Thanks, means a lot coming from you.

Too bad i couldnt make it to the JCO show, looks like there were a lot of nice cars there.

Instead of a hood, how about fabricating something from the radiator core support down to the bumper, just to get the front lines smoothed a little. Should still get you plenty of air to the engine and it would give your headlights more support so they don't look like they're just floating there.

I don't have a problem with the no hood idea. In fact, it's probably for the best considering the lack of air flow room in the engine bay with the new engine. Besides, I know how good wide open intakes sound

wow I really dont see why he should try to keep the sleeper aspect when his car doesnt look stock at all or resemble a sleeper even 1 percent at all....you must not know what a sleeper is.

But anywayz i feel you 97ztwo4 I feel you about the no hood approach. I too will do the same thing once I get my built LD9 runing. I think a car looks good without a hood....just aslong as the hinges arent showing.

Well thanks for the suppport! We will have to see how everything goes, it may run no hood it may not- i find pictures of each setup that i really like.
