In attempts to prove a point with some friends here, i have a question................
If you did not know my rims are the factory 00 - midyear 02 Z24 wheels, with the way they are painted, would you consider they may be a factory rim if you saw it from a distance. Or do they still look like a "stock rim" (Again consider you don't know they were stock to begin with)
Edit: also ignore the center cap, as from a distance, its not noticeable

I'm asking to compare the style with an aftermarket made rim, vs the traditional "Stock" looking wheel
such as
or
which IMHO is very close structurely
As opposed to...
which look factory to me.
in other-words, to someone who didnt know what cavalier rims looked like, they would consider they were aftermarket. Or do they still look like something a car manufacturer would make vs what an aftermarket wheel manufacturer would make.

I dunno, those ones you posted are ish close, but factory wheels almost always have a look about them design wise that is sort of blah factory white bread styling.
There are a few car companies that put awesome wheels on their cars, GM doesn't play that game at this price range.
so if you were a car show judge, you'd take points off vs someone with aftermarket wheels?? or does the fact that they are painted, the way they are painted, cancel that out??
I would take points off for those at a show no doubt...
i'm guessing that your friends are the ones that think your rims still look stock, and you're the one that doesnt.
imo, they still look very stock. the only thing that makes them look special is the fact that they're painted a bright and different color.they still look nothing like an aftermarket rim though. sorry.
Check out my build thread!
Well if your point is car shows, any judge is gonna know those are stock, and personally I don't find them to be that attractive anyways... Not knocking your style, but there are dozens of aftermarket wheels that would look and score better imho.
Besides, car show on 16s? What year is this like 1998?
wtf? painting your STOCK rims does not make them aftermarket no matter how dumb the judges are.
painting stock pieces should be deemed an 'accessory' at a show and if your in the stock class, 'accessory's' should be unlimited and you should be able to have up to 2-3 modifications and still not get docked.
have you seen the judging sheet?
Riddle me this... riddle me that...
hard to tell in the pics but it doesnt look like the paint on the rims matches your paint on the body. if your going with a color similar to yoru cars paint it either needs to match it or be a contrasting colore. not a contrast of the same red. if it matches your paint exactly you may get a point from me for color matching a stock wheel. but if they dont match your color i probalby wouldn't give you any points for it.

50/50. many stock rims could pass off as generic aftermarket rims, like american racing or the like. and i think thats the reason companies make their bottom line rims look so bland....so theyll go with the stock look of the cars better.
its hard to say about your rims though, mainly since im so acquainted with what cav rims look like already its hard to distance myself from that to give an unbiased opinion.
now if you want to know the quality.....they look good. although i might have gone with a black wheel with a body color lip.
it will be hard to give a good answer as we are all familiar with those wheels and know for a fact they are stock
ask people that do not know what style wheels traditionally come on cavaliers, and i think you would get a better group of answers
They dont look horrible but I personally dont like em whether they were stock or after market. To me though color matched wheels never appeal to me. I think you would be better off getting something after market.

ive entered mild for every show i entered (ive yet to enter a show with a conservative class)... Usually i see 9 out of 10 or 18 out of 20 for the Wheels and Tires category. This does not include underbody/fenderwells - and also does not include the brake components.
I won the bet with my friends though... i placed in a Top 40 show with about 500 cars this past weekend.

not to be mean, but does it really matter if your stock rims look stock or not? I mean they ARE stock. if you dont want stock rims, dont use stock rims. they dont look bad, but they do look stock. so i guess im not understanding the problem.
i say fail on aftermarket and give you -10 points for painting stock wheels on a car you show. buy some chrome aftermarkets. then your not putting silly post like this up.
not bad just not my style.
^^^ why does a show car have to have aftermarket wheels?

Thats what I was thinking..TONS of cars at shows are OEM or OEM+...most with stockers...If I would have gotten a Z or 'Fire GT, I would have kept the stockers, because I have a sweet spot for all original stuff
so imma add something to the mix here...
Ben already knows this, but i dont think anyone else does...
I rattlecanned the rims....
the only thing that came out of a paint gun was the clear, i used European Clear.
thoughts?
I'm going to be as nice as I can here. I know to each his own on your car within good reason. I see you have this kinda two tone look you are after, but if the whole car was painted the stock color with lips/bumpers color matched it would be x3 improved over now. The rims don't look to bad, but I think the black fade makes it look weird for some reason to me. It seems like you like it, but in my mind you are doing mods to the car that make it look cheap/crappy with what stuff you have laying around. I'm just being truthfull cause I love stock clean Z that are just slammed.
the fade is off centered/not even! on the spokes u can totally tell!
stock rims are stock rims, aftermarket are aftermarket, and crack is crack!!!

why does a non racecar have to have ultra light track intended rims??
i'm not saying show cars have to have aftermarket wheels. i am saying that cars that are modded, would be recomended that they have have aftermarket wheels to match the aftermarket look factory to match factory look they are going for. its all about how well it all flows together. In speedline's case i'm picking on him because he cheaped out and spray bombed his factory rims. i do agree with trey on the fact that a clean, factory, slammed look is hot to. so with that being said if he would of polished or chromed the wheels he would of matched the look of aftermarket but actually keep it stock.
