suspension work and "updated" pics
Tuesday, June 10, 2008 8:04 PM
Well I gave the car a much-needed bath today, and couldn't resist snapping a few pictures, even though I'm thoroughly dissatisfied with the exterior appearance of the car right now.

After that, I decided to start working on replacing/upgrading many of my front suspension parts. Here's the pile:

Prothane Control arm bushings, new ball joints, tie-rod ends, tie rods, and swaybar end links (I used a different set than pictured because there was only 1 side of the red ones (other side lost during shipping)

New end link in temporarily, just checking fitment

Control arm out and new tie-rod end in (decided changing inner tie-rods was too big of a PITA to be worth it)

Control arm with stock bushings

Bushing pressed out, you can see the fight i had trying to get the ball joint rivets out

new polyurethane bushings in

Just a random pic I took showing off my D-Specs

Thanks for lookin!

I think the exterior looks pretty damn good. Are you still working on the evo hood?

definitely looks like it needs a good wax job, that car could look quite a bit nicer than it already does, keep going!

I was also going to say (stupid lack of edit button) that its good to see I am not the only one that removed the "Sunfire" badging from the side of the car

are your inner tierods loose?, If not than it really isnt worth it.. But they are easy assuming you have the inner T-Rod end tool, just undo the clamps/ bands use the tool to loosen then and band the boot back on, Zip Ties or Hose clamps work fine..

Thanks man. How's your ride doin? Haven't seen pics in a minute

Thanks, but there's a lot of flaws that aren't easily seen in pics. As far as the hood goes, yeah I'm still working on it, but I had to redo one eyelid completely because I f**ked it up the first time around, so it'll still be a little bit on that.

It could definitely use a wax, but as I'm going to repaint, I don't feel the need quite yet

Yeah I decided when I pulled off the outer t-rod that it wasn't necessary to change the inner. I bought all of that except the control arm bushings in a package, so I figured I'd change em, but after I noticed how much was involved and that the current one was fine, I decided against it.

Well that's quite a story actually. I was originally going to sell the kit then the car, but i couldn't sell the car. I was going to use the streetfire front then get different sides and rear, but then I didn't want to put more money in a kit (plus the streetfire front broke a little), so I've settled on a stock kit with.... "extras"

I've got a pretty sleek plan for the exterior (IMO). I'm planning on changing to an 00-02 front with fogs, making a rear lip/diffuser for the stock rear, shaving doors, wing, and antenna (maybe gas door) and stripping the wheels and powdercoating them gunmetal grey, then getting that modded evo hood on.

haha well since you asked.... the front bumper is warped since it's off a junker, both fenders are dinged, the hood is warped from an accident a few years ago, there's a ding in my trunk, the pass. skirt is torn at the back, the drivers fender is off an SE so my other skirt isn't even on, my trunk panel is poorly painted, and there are endless imperfections with the whole paintjob. The wheels have curb rash and rock chips... i could go on.

The springs are sprints, 1.8 front and back that settled to about 2" all around

Well I bought them off a member, but I'm pretty sure they are Prothane, since they came with prothane instructions and prothane grease.

i like it as it sits, the stock kit looks good on there.

can you get pics showing the damage to the skirts? and possibly the front, i may still be interesting in them depending on how bad/noticible it is....

the hood warpage that you are talking about... is that causing the huge gap at the front or is it just not latched all the way?

^the drivers skirt is fine, but the pass one has about a 4 inch tear at the back. you can see it a little in the first pic up there. That being said, I haven't decided yet whether I'm keeping these after fixing the tear, or changing to something like IF sides. The front came off a car that was hit in the front pass side. the whole side of the bumper was caved in. I took a heat gun to it and fixed it the best i could, but again in the first pic, if you look closely where it mounts to the fender, it's still warped a little. The hood, yeah the gap is the warpage. that happened when i was rear-ended and shoved into the car in front of me. I can take better pics, but i won't be looking to get rid of this stuff until i can replace it.

Well, if you had a Premium Membership, you WOULD HAVE an edit button like I do.

Car looks good Pilz-E

Could use some wax, though.
