Custom Paint!
Thursday, July 10, 2008 9:01 AM
The sexyness.....this is #2 that I've done. I did a base coat of 1200 degress aluminized electrically conductive silver paint, then back masked, and sprayed a 1200 flat black. It will all gloss up when I clear it this weekend with Duplicolor Engine Enamel Clear coat.
I will post more pics once I get a chance to install it and clean my engine bay a bit.

The guy I got this cover from had it polished. So I sandblasted it to rough it back up enough for the paint to stick, then I used a 3 step cleaning precess. 1) Acetone used to degrease and clean out any residual particulate from blasting, 2)Phosporic Acid used as and acid etch , then a deionized water rinse, 3) Sodium Dichromate to seal the metal after the etch. Then baked it at about 125 for an hour to get it 100% dry. Then mask, paint, bake, back mask, paint again, unmask, then final bake.

Yeah I know its not perfect. But its better then bare metal

Anyone who wants one, can supply the paint (if it is any high temp color other then flat black and silver which i will supply) include 30 bucks for time and labor, and pay actual shipping and Ill do it..of course if you want ONLY black and silver, the price will be 45 as I will have to resupply my paint after about 6 units, and the 1200 degree paint is not cheap.
