$20, boredom, and some time to kill
Sunday, July 13, 2008 6:58 PM
Did the big brake upgrade earlier in the year, RSM front and SSBC rear, both bought used. All I had done before intsall was remove all the old paint. I SHOULD have at least put some clear coat on everything when I had it all clean and shiny, but nooooooo I was just too anxious to install them. So they rusted. Badly. It got ugly, and made a hell of a mess of my rims. So this weekend I thought I'd do something about it. It was a toss-up between black and silver. I wanted them to stand out and be more noticeable, and I didn't think that would happen with black, even with the light coloured wheels. Truth be told, and I know I'm not alone in this, I want to see them in the reflection of the car beside me!

This is basically how they looked when I installed them (the rotor hats were painted black)

See what I mean about rust? They had been so shiny when I put them on a few months ago

I'd say that looks a wee bit better!

I didn't take any pre-paint pics of the fronts. The brackets were pretty nasty, but the calipers weren't bad as they're aluminum and therefore don't rust.

Here's the front with a few coats brushed on

The obligatory behind-rim shots: Pardon the messy wheels, I really didn't feel like cleaning them.

Rear

Front

And with the rest of the car

For anyone wondering how well the brakes work, they're awesome. I was on a road course last weekend, and they hauled the car down effectively and safely every time, with minimal fade.

Just for @!#$s & giggles, here's my front brakes a few years ago

Enkei 5+ FTW!

The big brakes look rockin behind them too. Don't see these wheels on many cars either. My roomie has rocked them on his Beretta since 03.

The SSBC front and rear kit I had on my sedan had the powdercoat blue option from SSBC and it was worth every penny extra it cost. Unfortunatly the rotors were not coated so the did not look so hot but the calipers held up and always looked good.

And that's exactly why I love them so much, you see even less of them here in Canada, almost never.
