After three days in the body shop I finally got my baby back today
! I had the handles and the trunk lid painted (the trunk lid was already silver but it came from the junkyard and had some scratches) and the taillights clear coated (I tinted the reverse lights red a few weeks back and decided they would look better professionally clear coated). I couldn’t be happier with the results!
As always… the Sunfire rear bumper is staying, so please don’t even bother wasting my time telling me I need a Cavalier rear bumper because it’s never going to happen!
The exterior will be getting finished up in three phases over the next few months:
phase 1:
- windshield wiper arms, windshield wiper blade housings, mirrors and door pillars painted black
- evil eyelids welded to the hood
- entire car buffed to remove surface scratches
- factory rear wheel well liners installed
phase 2:
- rear window replaced (it has some nasty scratches on it from the previous owner
)
- all five windows tinted 35% / 6” 5% tint strip on the upper windshield / 6” black vinyl strip on the inside upper rear window
phase 3:
- ’00-’02 Sunfire GT front bumper (with functioning factory fog lights, galvanized mesh painted black in the front bumper openings and “PONTIAC” front filler plate)
- ’00-’02 Sunfire GT front crush guard / splash shields
- ’00-’02 Cavalier Z24 side skirts
It has been just over a year since I bought this car and I am so happy with how far it has come in that time. I <3 my J-Body

Thanks! I kind of agree about the name too, but I've had it for so long now that that's what everyone knows me by and I wouldn't know what name to use
. This is also kind of the reason why I chose to get normal license plates for the Sedan as oppose to the vanity "J TO ENVY" plates I had on the GT. If I could come up with a good nickname I would probably change it...

The mirrors are staying black because once the windows are tinted it will kind of give the appearance of a two tone paintjob which I kind of like, plus I just don't think color matched mirrors would look right on my car for some odd reason.

I got my side markers all the way back in 2004 when Pro Car Parts still had them listed specifially for Sunfires.

Thanks! Sorry but I don't really have a need for any clear side markers right now. Mine have held up just fine over the past four years

nice. i'm not feelin the rear bumper personally, but it's not because you have a cav trunk. it's just because i don't like those bumpers lol. i have to agree with everyone saying you should have painted the mirrors. i think it would've looked very nice with them done too. the handles are a definite improvement though. i'll look for you at the bash next week

Unfortunately I have to wait and have the body shop put the sides on because although the tabs that attach to the underside of the car with the screws lined up fine, the other tabs that pop into the holes did not
. They will be on soon enough though!

Everyone has their own opinions. I love the rear end because it's nice and clean looking to me, not to mention different with the Cav tails and Sunfire rear bumper. As far as the mirrors go, like I said, I am just not a fan of the painted mirrors. I prefer to leave them all black. Thanks for the kind words and yes, I will see you next week at the Bash

Wow!! Really nice job on that car, its so clean and simple, its perfect! I agree with keeping the sunfire back bumper on, thats a real cool looking rear end going on there. Can't wait to see the car with the evil eyes done, it will be amazing!

lol I keep hollering something about a photoshoot, Im not worthy yet. Youre exterior is better than mine. i need to get my skirts and some lips... Been spending too much money on the motor. Only 1 exterior piece there

I've been meaning to send you a PM, I had the painting done at a body shop here in Sandwich. The guy who owns it is into doing all kinds of custom work on small cars. He just opened up a Performance shop in downtown Sandwich and his actual shop is out by the airport. If you ever need anything, let me know and I'll send you his number.
I would also like to add....
I'm gonna steal 2 of your handles. Not telling which 2, but if 2 of them don't match.....it wasn't me.
