My other project...
Friday, July 18, 2008 6:59 AM
Ive been keeping this quiet for a while now but since some people around here on the local forums now know about it I figure I might as well post here and bring it into day light.

Picked up a 97 Cavalier off my bud after he wrote it off (not his fault). Here is the damage when I bought it:

And here is as of a few weeks ago.

There is more done now, motor and COMPLETE harness is out of her, Ive got a new sub frame sand blasted and painted flat black. The old sub frame is bent on the p/s right by the lower mount. Ill post pics once I get the new sub frame in.

Open for all questions & comments. Let me know what you think.

Sorry, L61. Ive got 3 of em downstairs in my basement. The plans are for this to be into the 10's by end of next year. It's a long way to go but she will see an Ecotec in it and down the track bone stock by the end of this year.

10's is a huge number to shoot for.

Oh Im beyond well aware. There is a 98 Civic hatch (10.93 @ 132mph) and a 00 Integra (10.99 @ 132MPH) from this neck of the woods (Moncton New Brunswick) and just watching them and lending a hand Ive realised the work needed. It's a very long road and by no means am I trying to talk it up as being easy. Especially unsponsored. Ill be happy if the damn thing fires up this year. Lol. I know it does sound like a very n00b thing to say and that is the reason Im taking my time with it. Im already deep into this one enough that Ive decided my black one is stopping at bolt ons and is pretty much on hold for 2 years. Just maintain it is all.

One of the main reason's I held off on debuing this is for that reason. It's not as bad on here but around my area is almost an unwritten rule that there is only 3 vehicles that can go fast, Nissan Skylines, Toyota Supra's and turbo Honda's. I say I want a Cavalier in the 10's and everyone rolls there eyes and I get the typical "Yeah, ok"

Sorry if I over killed the response. It's one of my biggest fears having everyone think Im talking @!#$.

VIPERREDZED: As tempting as it is, nothing on this car will be from E-bay. Everything down to nuts, bolts, clamps, fittings, EVERYTHING will be brand spanking new. Too much risk when your looking at dumping $10K + into motor alone. Im too worried about taking a short cut and having the motor blow up on me. Murphy's Law awaits me where ever I go.

And the turbo, well, Im getting feedback from a guy in Montreal plus where I work at a GM dealership (has it's priviledges) Ive been talking with actual GM Race Team Engineers (I feel so cool right now, Lol) and from there input, it's looking like it's going to be a Borg Warner AirWerks turbo that supposedly supports up to 1200hp. NOW, I dont need 1200hp by ANY means. Just that is what I am starting with on paper. Really Im looking for just over 600hp. The motor is gonna be built to handle up to 800hp just incase. I like a pretty big safety blanket.

islandECOTEC: Nope, not going to Raven. James does AMAZING work and I look up to him, but this is being built more for friendly competition for him. And no, it wont sadly be ready for this weekend or the big shootout in August. Im trying to get a motor into it for one of the last regular run of the mill weekends in September. Cold air makes the car look faster then it really is! Lol.
