Turbo time!!
Friday, October 31, 2008 2:26 PM
Well after a few days and alot of heavy rain/wind the turbo is installed and running great. Running on a modified hpt sc flash with 278cc lsj injectors, open dp and wastegate right now so its realy loud lol. The tial 50mm bov is also amazing, Ive seen vids but it sounds much better in person. Well here are a few pics, its dirty and things still need to be cleaned up but its running great I'll take some vids soon but I was pretty busy today.

No the nitrous isnt hooked up lol.

Theres an intercooler hiding back there

Its not one of the prettiest or fastest setups ever, but it will get there. Track times soon

Looks pretty good man. As I mentioned in the boost forum you made a big mistake by porting a little line from the PCV hole in the head to the #2 runner in your phenolic spacer. You'll be boosting the PCV system which is bad news bro.

seeing as injectors are measured at different pressures, the siemens deka p/n 12790827 injector is listed as 32#, 34#, and 36# depending on where you look.

as per www.gmtunersource.com in the racer tech section under the ECOtec appendix, the LSJ injectors are listed as 34#

However, the point being, the injectors are much larger than the 270ish CC the OP listed them as.

The GM build book says they are 34#.

Sorry guys the injector cc was just a typo, they are 378cc which I cant remember what it calculated to when I put in the injector constant in hpt.

Also, I dont realy see how the pcv port to a cylinder is bad, the stock intake mani utilizes it from the port to each runner and plenty have turbo'd using the stock intake mani.

Im having some problems, check out the boost forum and help me!!!!

Hey that looks pretty familiar. Made a few changes I see . Did you cut the hks flange out for your bov? And did you tie into the downpipe I sold you or make another one?

Luke, just wanted to say thanks again for everything man. I cut the hks flange off and welded the tial 50mm on, and Im using your dp but blocked off the recirculation flange and made a wg extension and open dump. Still need to be cleaned up and Id like to modify a few more little things.

jmarks82, I guess your reffering to wg spring? I need a 9lb BOV spring for idle vacume around 14-17in/hg. Compressor surge is a bitch with this bov if it isnt set right lol

Re: Turbo time!!

Anti surge porting ftw!! Sorry reading>me

Re: Turbo time!!
Wednesday, December 03, 2008 8:56 AM
Mike, how are you getting rid of your surge? just by changing the BOV spring? I have BAD compressor surge at the moment.

Yea, the tial 50mm bov causes alot of compressor surge if not using the correct spring. Thats one of the ways I killed my turbonetics lol. There are alot of vids online of people showing problems with the tial from using the wrong spring. I believe the one in there is like a 12lb spring which is set for idle vacume around 20-22in/hg, way to stiff and not reacting fast enough jamming all that pressure back into the turbo.

You have the hks ssqv right David? Dont they have add on valves or something to help against surging, or is that just for sound? They also make anti-surge compressor housings, Im sure my new one should help much more over the old.

Re: Turbo time!!
Wednesday, December 03, 2008 10:51 AM
Yes I have the ssqv one. I know about the anti surge compressor housing but I wanted to start with the cheapest fix first. Im getting dynoed here in a couple weeks and my tuner said we'll see what the car does on the dyno before we go messing with the BOV..

If this bov doesnt fix right, looks like Ill be changing out bov's when i get my new Intake mani.

I just wanted to know your thoughts on it.. Thanks.
