teaser

Finally getting some things done. Thought I'd post a teaser up.
This is just base coat and intercoat clear. It's going to get a few coats of really light rootbeer candy with gold crystal pearl and a bit more flake mixed in, then final clear, but I'm going to wet sand the intercoat clear to make sure it's completely even first.

and a close up to give a better idea of the metallic characteristics:

I'm hoping to have the engine bay completely painted by the middle of next month, then move on to the rest.

Not a fan of gold cars AT ALL but once you lay the rootbeer candy over that I think I'm going to be a fan. Looking forward to seeing it finished.

Thanks for the comments. I wanted something different.

I'm not actually a fan of most golds out there either, but I got this idea for a color a few years ago, and I've had a hard time finding the color I wanted, so I recently ordered a sh!tload of different gold bases, flakes (including a couple of variations of tangelo orange), pearls, and the root beer candy concentrate to mix into the intercoat clear (when they say "concentrate", they're not kidding!--two drops into 4oz of clear turned it brown instantly!). I think I've finally got the combination I'm looking for. It's supposed to be darker than most golds, with good depth, and no green to it like some golds have.

Well, I gave it a wet sand, and then hit it with a few coats of light candy and clear. It darkened slightly. I mixed a bit of fine pearl flake into the candy, and it gave it a little bit more depth in the metallic, but not quite as much as I was looking for. The sun was too low to get a good comparison pic, but if it's nice out tomorrow I'll get one and post it up.

I have so say, I'm very happy with the quality of the paint. First time using this brand.
I am using Kustom Shop paints, and they are excellent quality. The clear leveled extremely well with no hangers. I would recommend them for anyone looking for some custom paints.

Here's a pic I just took with the candy and the clear over it. Definite difference when compared in the sun.

While the purpose of painting this part (it's just a spare mirror I had, not a final one) was to make sure I got the color right, it has definitely inspired me to work on getting the car going. Need to clear out the garage so that I can start spraying the car!

That's gonna look sick! I have always hated gold on a car, but that color is amazing. Good work on getting the color just right!

Sorry guys, I've got no updates worth posting pics.

Here's where I am at...I've got the garage cleared out so that I have the room to paint, and the engine bay is just about ready for paint. I've blasted a bunch of parts, including the subframe, and they're off to the powdercoater this week. I'm planning on getting the engine bay painted in the next couple of weeks.

When that's done, I'll have some pics to post.
