Turbo LD9 Video

I've never hosted a video before so hopefully it works. The power steering pump sounds like @!#$ as you hear in the vid. I was hoping to catch the spontaneous knock but it didn't show up during the 45 seconds. The engine has less than one mile on it since the rebuild and I will be tearing it apart again this spring to diagnose the noises before it goes into my new car.

Nice looking setup, I doubt j's have enough hood clearance to run the charge pipes like that lol. Looking forward to more videos.

thanks guys...
the ttr mount has bushings in it where the bolts meet the side engine mount. I am currently making a custom cowl hood to clear the charge pipes. Hopefully this summer, I can get things running better and the noises fixed.

Hard to tell on the noises from the video. The 2.4 power sterring pumps can get loud with age. Maybe put a different one on it and go from there. What all was done to the motor?

I have a new power steering pump waiting to go on this summer. I know the rack was bad so maybe its causing the pump to jam up and I burned through 2 pumps within about 20 minutes. I was really hoping I could catch the spontaneous knock on camera but it never happened while the car was running.

The block was hot tanked and bored .20 over with wiseco pistons, eagle rods, and clevite bearings. The crank was polished but not machined and I installed standard bearings. I have the jbp oil pump with a new timing tensioner and new timing guides.

The head has secret cams, standard size stainless valves, bronze valve guides, 2.3 springs, 2.4 retainers and keepers, and 2.4 lifters. I bought a new set of lifters to go in this summer as well since they were a bit noisy.

I really would like to do the 2.3 oil pump swap but parts are so damn expensive and being in college working part time has it limits right now.

Maybe I should look into replacing the timing chain and cam sprockets as well?? I didn't really think a chain could stretch but the knock sounded like it was coming from the timing chain housing. I found a site where I can get the whole timing set brand new for less than $75.00 so we'll see.

I would not worry about replacing the timing chain, and cam sprockets, but that is me.

sounds more like a tensioner from what i could hear. I worked on a 2.7 chrysler motor that had the tensioner collapse in it and it sounded just like that. I could be wrong though, i've never taken apart or worked on an LD9.

Do you know if you have a 1 or 2 piece tensioner?

to me it also sounded like the timing chain tensioner.

I installed the OEM 1 piece tensioner when I rebuilt the motor. The spontaneous knock sound did sound similar to the chain slapping the housing but I don't know why it would be loose b/c everything was tight and timed properly

Maybe it's the angle but that turbo looked huge in there

naahhh....its actually only a t04e 50trim so its not that big. Probably looks big b/c it has the turbo blanket on.
