so my buddys tahoe raped my cavalier last night..its definitely going to need a new door and a new quarter panel because i wont settle for popping the dent out and using bondo. you guys think they will total it out or fix it please leave some feedback
uh i would say fix it from the amount of damage..there is no way they will total that...

I would have to disagree they will total a car with even minor dents in the quarter panels alone if the miles are high enough.
All depends on the actual condition of the rest of the car
well how many miles are on the car? cause I just dont see it happening...

I'd say about $1500-$2000 in damage to my untrained and unprofessional eye. If that represents 80% of the value of the car it
may have a chance of being totaled.
Well if that's your 05 Cavalier the KBB is $4500 at MOST. So if it cost that much or more to fix it, they will total it for sure and pay you the value. Of course who knows what will happen when it comes down to it.
if you want a new quarter they will total it. the door will get a skin. the dent will be popped out. there is NOTHING wrong with BODY FILLER. BONDO is a brand. if it is done correctly you will NEVER know there was filler there and you will never have problems in the future. if you want a quarter. you may pay out of pocket costs. they have to remove the rear window, quarter glass, window trim thingy between the to glasses. and then remove the skin.put it back on. and jamb out the vehicle. the dent can be fixed for probably 1/3 of the cost of fixing the dent. but no. its not totaled unless you request a new quarter

From what I remember, they go based off the lowest value of the vehicle.
im pretty sure they base it off of 70% of the vehicles NADA value at least around here we do. and BTW i DO work in a bodyshop fulltime. so im not just talking out my ass
If they do. Buy it back. Would be a cheap fix if its only the external damage.
If they total it:
1. Buy it back
2. Maaco it (LOL)
3 Buy another Cav pre 2003
4. Own two Cavs
5 Smile
i'd have them total it! and get a ls sport!

^^^^ This would be correct. However some body shops if they are hurting they will take jobs in and try harder to cut down costs. (not always a good thing) But if your convinced that you need a new quarter panel (which you do not) then take it to a couple different shops around town and you might just end up finding one that will bite the bullet on their end to cut down costs for the insurance company...
I hear this everyday about how body filler is the biggest p.o.s. around because you don't fix the problem, you just hide it. Wrong. Collision repair centers will do metal straightening to the industry standards then body filler is applied to fill minor imperfections, small creases that have been work hardened, or hammer marks. Take it to a respectable shop and have them fix it. It will be just fine without replacing the quarter panel. On the upside the door jam doesn't look too messed up so there shouldn't be and bad pillar damage if there is any. (hard to tell with the door shut)

x2 its a good time to get upgraded
X2.... but theres something I dont get...
Your "friend" hit your car..... so his insurance should have to pay... why cant you just sue outright for the repair costs up to the value of the car and not have to worry about it being totaled?
If his insurance company doesnt want to pay the amount... have your insurance company sue his.
If the repair costs more than the car... Ide at least find a way to get the full cost of the vehicle with a lawyer.
Its not like you did the damage where you have do deal with comprehensive coverage that involves what the vehicle is worth.... his insurance should cover him well past what your car is worth from his liability insurance....
At least thats what I gathered when I read my coverage front to back (every boring page)
why not just pop and bondo it? when done correctly the bondo will be used just as like a thick primer..
Dont get me wrong, filling a hole with 6 gallons of bondo isnt right. but neither is 2k to fix such damage
