i forgot to mention motor has only 69k on it. Oil changed every 3000 miles with mobile 1. Maintenance wise car was tiptoe shape.
if that is what it sounds like its a knock for sure...
but i would like to point out that i was told my motor had a knock at one point...when accelerating esp around 2k RPMs i could hear it loud... Goodyear told me knock, and two other shops as well. went to the Chevy Dealership i use, they go. "no problem...this was an early problem with the ecotecs" new tensioner / rail / chain etc... all better.
i dont think there were any flukes for that motor like i had.... either way... im sorry to hear that about your motor...
Wow dude.. sorry too hear bout your engine...
At least it didn't do this....
^^^^^ Wow. A bit of seafoam and it's good to go.
... even with it being on the tow truck the car looks great!
too bad about the motor knock, you just got the motor to where you wanted it...

If you're the original owner and you practiced this, then it would mean something.
Best of luck on the fix.

The (most) critical part of an engine life is the first 1-3K miles, depending on maintanace/treatment of the engine is what paves the road for the life the engine.

Well once swap out my current motor(replacing it with 2001 2.4 with 10k on it from a alero) and rebuild it, i am definitely getting the 2.3 oil pump done.
For the sake of knowledge, whats the deal with people saying the Muller oil pump is a different design then the stock one? Some saying its better?
^^In the past there has been instances (2 at least) here on the JBO in which people have converted on to 2.3L oil pump and still have rod failure. So I would not say that it is a cure, but I would definitely use it if I was planning to make it a high revving engine.
The Alero engine with 10K on it... it's still a gamble just because as stated before. But I'm a strong believer on checking oil levels every 2 weeks, use oil additives (I had excellent results with Duralube) and change the oil every 3K miles, just to lessen the chance of this happening on this unknown Alero engine.
