First time glassing

Hey guys, I just figured I would share what i've been working on lately. After seeing alot of the custom dashes and interiors being built on here I decided to take a stab at trying a dash. Its still in the earlier stages but I think it will turn out pretty slick.

This was a really rough idea of what I wanted. I really liked soundsgoods recent dash build with the speakers on the dash and I've always liked the guages centered in dashes.

When I put the gauges in the middle I wanted to make it connected to the cd player/hvac peice. I cut up the factory bezel like so and started messing with different angles and positions. It took me quite a while to find the right spot.

These show some of the peices I decided to keep from the og dash.

Once I had that figured out I started securing everything together with loads of hot glue and dowels. I can't express how happy I am that I purchased a glue gun and dremel before this started. Both of those have been very well used. haha

Now I layed down the first strips. I know that I should have stretched something across the peices, but I really just wanted to get it glued together so I had something a little easier to work with, My first coat involved me taking a couple peices and laying them across the gap. haha. Oh well it worked.

I am missing a bunch of pictures, but you can kind of see what the bezel looks like below. Theres three layers and its starting to shape up. The rest of these are my attempts at framing the rest of the dash and stretching some fleece. The dash top now has one coat on it but I don't have any pics yet. Lets just say I'm losing to the air bubbles right now, lol

And here are the vents I'm going to use. I picked them up for free and figured the shape of them would look alot better then the factory rectangles.

Thats all for now. I just got air ride last week and have been getting that installed so there probably won't be any updates to this thread. I'll just make a new one. Thanks for checking it out. Feel free to give me a few tips.

I don't quite get the fascination with moving the cluster to the middle of the dash, but I enjoy watching build-ups like this.

Looks like you're taking your time in planning. Should look great when it's done.

from an audio standpoint, having thing symetrical helps achieve a better image if that is what your going with.

good luck with it man. just stick with it, even when it looks like you should scrap it. most fiberglass projects look like they should be thrown away at some point, so stick with it and see it thru to the finish.
