the slofire motor lives!
Monday, August 03, 2009 2:29 PM
first i want to thank all the local guys for the help...Eric (97cavie24ls), Jarett (Freq-GTO), Chris (Evofire), RJ (Inochi), Grant (SS-J), and Craig (Craig gm)

i figured now that the motor is in and it runs i should make a post. there are still things to finish on the car...intake, meth, gauges, front end back on. the major thing to finish is tuning though so i don't blow this motor up.

questions? comments? whatever? post them up...

im still waiting for an e-mail from the builder of the motor on exactly whats in it...so don't ask...

here is the vid of the first startup...im gonna link it cause its a large file

and here are the pics

That weekend was fun. Even though I could only help with the removal, I learned a ton and had a blast

So this was Karo's engine out of the white drag sunfire?

Interesting, well I suppose we now know the disposition of Karo's car. I'm curious why you bothered putting the M45 supercharger on it, it's just going to be an air restriction on that motor. Didn't it put down more NA than anyone has made with an M45 to begin with?

That is a GM protype M45 that put's out around 13psi (more than any normal M45 I have heard of).
I would like to know the specs on the motor but I'm sure it is high/higher compression, which should go nice with the M45.

Nice work on the install.

Dibs on the underdrive pulley that used to be on there, LOL!!

this is the one comment i have heard a couple times...i guess we will see what it can do once it gets on the dyno. if it doesn't give much more power then it was na...i guess i'll just have to upgrade the blower then huh? lol

everyone else thanks for the comments...hopefully i'll get full specs on the motor soon and i'll pose them up

and its ford blue cause thats the way karo had it...and im too lazy to change it...plus it really doesn't look too bad in there

blwn ld9...ask eric about the pulley

**edit**

oh and it looks like i found karos old post from 2003 where he states the motor build...i don't think much will differ from then and what i have now but here it is...i edited out the parts that don't apply to what im using but here is the link to the archived post also http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=46&i=8577&t=8577&arch=1#8577

still dont see how this thing made 259whp n/a but i guess only time will tell. get that bish on the dyno!!!

he also had a hella ported ho intake w/ 75mm tb iirc. and a custom large tube stainless steel header. so those im sure had something to do with it. he was also using an obd-1 setup.

That oil pan is badass! Not a fan of the blue, but I understand its heritage lol.

I realy dont see how the sc will restrict the motor specially with the higher boost from the prototype. With the higher compression should see some nice numbers

i would give my left testicle for that motor and blower setup

but i also remember when he had that car at the cdn bash many many years ago he was running a @!#$ ton of nitrous into it

Re: the slofire motor lives!

you must have had KR on your old motor to cause the piston to chip like that

we motor swap in the summer so the car will be tuned and running for the winter lol

i have a feeling because of how much air the na motor could move...i'll probily lose a little low end power but pickup alot of top end cause of the boost...again not a clue whats gonna happen till it hits the dyno

the old motor blew cause it wasn't tuned...at all. it was the stock gm flash and i wasn't anywhere close to the stock blower psi...and the meth wasn't working i found out after seeing the kink in the hose

oh and i did get an e-mail from todd miller with some more details on the motor...

Quote:

10:1 wiseco pistons with modified chambers, longer than stock rods, .040 over, decked block, milled head.
head was fully ported all around
crank is knife edged
valve train is likely stock 2.4 although the parts were sold to us as better than stock, it tested as stock, except the valves which are ferrea but stock sized. Lifters are stock 2.3.

The charger is too small to use with the motor.

The compression is too high to use with the charger.

The header looks too small, but kinda hard to tell by a pic.

Nope.

That was just the story the supporters of the car that lost to it want everyone to believe.
