Some Carnage...
Thursday, October 29, 2009 6:50 AM
Well the car has been hurting since the last time I took it drag racing, finally figured out why...

Snapped a lash adjuster on the Exhaust side, Cylinder #3....

I'm only reving to 7000rpm, and I know that many other .org members are reving thier Ecos this high as well on stock valvetrain so this might come as a warning to some.

I know PJ also had this problem once, was the cause of this ever determined? Could it be from Valve Float? Or are the lash adjusters just @!#$ty?

I have put well over 100 drag passes on my motor this year, so I'm sure that hasn't helped either...lol

Anyways, just thought I'd share, everyone loves some good carnage!

Any other damage done to the motor cause of that?

It doesn't appear so, there are some nice gouges in the head casting that you can kinda see in that one picture, but other than that nothing I can see.

All the broken bits where in the bottom of the head well away from anything that was moving. Cam lobe also was not damaged which is good!

Wierd... count yourself lucky I guess.

I looked over PJ's old thread when he snapped his and he also snapped an exhaust lash adjuster on cylinder #3 just like me....very werid stuff.

I'm hoping PJ chims in on this topic.

Sorry to hear but seems nothing too serious. Not sure how much a lifter costs however I have plenty should you need a spare.

When I saw the post I was worried it was the diff that went

well when you rent the track privately, with 50-60 cars from 9am-5pm, then i would say i will probably get even more...
for the spring rental from 9a-2p a gbody got 41 passes in. so i dont see why 20-30 is all that difficult.

i will have timeslips for sure.

if it blows, i have a spare motor.

Dyno numbers should be interesting, going to do a run with the Cut-Out open VS. Closed to finally end that debate.

I'll make a post with the numbers.

Matt Gorman - Was it your Cylinder #3 exhaust that went as well ?
