Why steelies on the front? Just come from the track with the Christmas lights on as well?

Snow tires I would assume. The lights are a little much IMO, lol.

I'm going to have to winterize here pretty soon.

Well yea I assumed that, but then I saw he had aftermarket in the back. If snow tires, put all 4 on, not just 2 lol

never understood why someone would want to try and save the 2 front rims in winter but leave the rears on.

but to each his own.

Better traction, and a low budget.

yeah i get that its for better traction. thats the reason most do it anyway but you might as well take the rears off too so they are the same condition....

Indeed, and I agree. I'm just saying that the reason you see them with only steelies on the front is cost. Either that or they just don't care about their summer rims.

If you are only putting on 2 winter tires they should be on the back, not the front.

Umm, it's front wheel drive. They wont do much on the back.

They're apart of braking on the rear which is a big factor in winter driving. Having them on the rear is just as important. Just becuz its FWD doesn't mean you don't need them, you still need traction when coming around a corner and what not the rear of the car is still attached with NON grip/snow tires which will slide you out still. Budget or not do it right or not at all.

The xmas lights look cool man, how did you wire 'em up ?

J's understeer like there is no tomorrow in the snow, so having less grip in the back makes them more neutral in the snow. I've spent the last 6 winters with very worn tires on the back and brand new on the front, and I've never once had the back end come around on me when I didn't want it to. On the topic of braking, the front tires lock up way before the rear even think about it, and those drums really don't to that much to begin with. I'll agree that it would help a bit, but not enough to worry about.

But, my original point was that putting them on the back would do nothing. The back end would be so firmly planted that you would understeer through ever turn, that is if you could even get it going.

Is it optimal, no, but fresh tires on the front is way better than fresh tires on the back in the snow.

Blind z24...
I agree... and I disagree.
Back when I had my 96 Cavalier...
had to cheap out, as I was low on cash, and only got the two front tires done...
Than totalled the car.

The tires were still basically brand new, so we took them off the car before it was into the salvage yard.
Had them sitting around... so I put them on my neon as they were the perfect size for the car.
I could get two more tires now... but it's my beater car... so i don't care that much to get the other two.
It helps me get traction to drive and steer just having em on the front, and with just regular tires in the rear you can easily 'drift' or ass drag etc.

AND if you are like me, in highschool, i was like alot of other ppl and would 'drift' during lunch,
but unlike many of them, mine never caused an accident.
AND as a result, the few times that the rear of my car slips during regular driving,
my drifting 'skills' come into play and im able to come out of the slide without a flinch.

So on a budget... do just the two front tires...
If you can afford it, do all four obviously.
But as for not doing it at all because you can only afford the front two... when you live in Canada etc.. thats not really an option

okay to answer everyones questions.

steely's: some douchebag cut me off on a highway, in turn i drove up a curb ruined my front right steely so i didnt get nailed by insurance due to the fact that im 19 in assigned risk. my friend has a shop hence the EOP sticker. has wheels in the back with all new goodyear eagles. took those 2 steelies and the 2 rears are from a chrysler sebring which are actually modded to fit the hub because the bore is too small on the rim and it got stuck there. so i took those and left my 4 wheels there.

um lights are ziptied to the bike rack, extension cord goes down into the door along the back weather stripping so i get no water inside the car and it just drips out the bottom. that cord is connection to a power inverter in which the cigarette lighter cable was to short so i had to splice that 16gauge wire to the 12gauge wire that it came with(which was for running it off the battery.) to make it longer, and all works well.

but yeah i figured i can't put a wreath in the front so why not put lights on the roof rack.

and i'm glad you guys like it. haha.
