I'm thinking of a v6 but do I go for a 3.8sc or 3.1 or 3.4 . What's the better engine .

3.1 or 3.4 would be much easier than the 3.8. They basically bolt in, its just the wiring thats a pain. The 3.8 requires a custom cradle and still has all the nightmare of wiring.

3.1 swap? ludicrous. might as well just mod ur OHV if you dont want power.

Or keep a stock quad if u want to lock up ur motor...
just kidding

A modded 2.4 is alwayse a good alternative to putting a 3.1 liter boat anchor in the engine bay

Here's some hater feed - My 3.1 MPFI in its natural home, a gen 2 cavi:

Old, dirty, and greasy. It'll be getting lifted out, cleaned and put into a Beretta body by the end of summer, along with most of the rest of the compatible parts. I love the sound of them. Its louder than my buddy's Ford V8. I have to agree with the others, though. If you want to swap a V6, find a 3400. Personally, I think a 3400 SFI in an 03-05 Sunfire would be pretty cool. Everyone that has an ecotec just mods the ecotec. It would be different, and with the right exhaust, it would sound mean as hell.

I really can't begrudge a 3100 in its natural home, but its not good to swap to.

I miss my ols 87 cav. It was a beater to the nth degree but it was a dependable beater

^^ thats the 3.1. the "3100" would actually be a decent motor to swap in as its got more power than the motors we get stock. the 3.1 is a slow pooch, the "3100" is a slightly different motor.

Well, learn something everyday. I didn't realize there was much of difference.
I stand corrected z yaaaa, my apologies

yeah... i dont recall the exact numbers but the 3.1 is like 140hp? and the 3100 (the newer version) is like 160 iirc.

has a roller cam and a much better top end with better flowing heads/intake manifolds. im sure it has more but those were the specifics i always remembered.

now, i have the older 3100 in my beretta and its slow as piss. off the line its not so bad but top end is non-existant it seems. an LD9 would have no trouble walking all over it.

So this thread is a bit of a failure with only 1 picture and no swap pics... Yes I know there is a search function, but wouldn't it make sense to have a V6 thread, I mean there is a red car, yellow car, eco motor, ect. thread, but I didn't see any V6 threads... It seems like a legit thing to have.

what's the hp numbers on a 3400 I'd thinkin of putin one in .....

most 00+ 3100s are about 175hp
most 3400s are about 185hp

I say most, because there are a few cars that have a slightly different rating from the factory due to minor tuning differences. The motors are all the same. With some tuning and a few bolt-ons, either engine can hit 200hp very quickly. Throw a cam in it and you're well past that.

If you do a 3100, make sure it is a 2000+. The older ones are about 160hp, because of the head and intake manifold restrictions.
