old v. new

Just perusing around craigslist wanted section I found a guy looking to trade his rims for subs and an amp. Well I just happened to have some 15s and an amp laying in storage for about 2 years soooo.... I practically got these for free.The plan was to use these for the summer and take my time restoring the rims i already had, but once i got a hold of these i decided im keeping them. There are no scratches or curb rash, just minor stone chips here and there, otherwise practically new looking. The tires will need to be replaced after this season but they are a bit big for my liking anyhow (235/45/17) well enough B.S. PICS!

225/45/17 is the correct size and what I went with, but I would have much rather went 235's on there instead....

and here starts the arguement...... 215/45 is what books recomend 225/45 are what others recomend that think they know how to read specs.

^^ Dude, go use a tire calculator yourself. 225/45/17 is the size to go with. In fact, look at the sticky in wheels forum. it breaks it down for you.

i guess my 5 yrs of working in a tire shop dealing with this daily means nothig? if you do look, neither of the 2 sizes gives you the same roling diameter one is -1 mph at 55 on the speedometer and the other is +1 mph at 55 on the speedometer. so pick your poison. next is this all depending the width of the rim and manufacture of the tire. i have seen the 225 rub when put on also. but what ever i obvious know nothing and some tire ESTIMATOR know everything. carry on.

Nice. I like the old rims, but the new ones look way better. Just fit the car better. Color included.

The 235s look really good, there is 0 gap, even in the rear. And even on sportlines they don't rub, but the car is about 1/2" taller.

And the reason people getting rubbing with the 225 is because of the offset on the wheel, not the tire size. I have 225/45 and I have no rubbing because you guessed it, I have the PROPER OFFSET.

i am glad to see you quote that. now reread it because you obviously can not read or are too stupid to understand that 807 is not equal to 808. good for you and your proper offset but that does not change the fact that the height difference of a tire is different when on a 7",8",9" wide wheel. hell i think you were one of the crybabies about stretched tires and i guess when i put 9" wide wheels on my car i will put on 225's because according to the estimator it says that the speedometer is not off, when in the real world it is not. hell that is like saying someone can tune a car after reading a book and that ryan(qwkcav) knows nothing after doing it for 5+ years.

now get off the computer and go out to the real world, get some expereince in the field, then talk to me. until then piss off.

That is 1 revolution per MILE. Think how many inches around the tires are and how many inches are in a mile... not sure off hand on the tires but there are 63,360 in a mile. So, figure out how much a tire is, let's say 48 inches to be safe... divide that out and you get your % its off.

very good vince. now if you equate that my the 215 it will fall into the same amount of the difference as a 215. to me a 215 looks better. but it is up to who ever is buying the tire. my argument is that a 215 or 225 are even choices not the exact size. there is no exact size in plus sizing just a close choice. comprenda?

narrow tire looks better than a wide tire? only time ill agree with that is if its a RWD car with skinnies up front.

and also, 215 and 225's are not even choices. one is 10mm wider, sometimes that 10mm makes a difference. I wish I had 235's on mine to get even more mm.

Radius: 12.5"
Diameter: 25"
Circumference: 78.5"
807.0 Revs/mile

also, the specs on 215/45's.....
Sidewall: 3.8"
Radius: 12.3"
Diameter: 24.6"
Circumference" 77.3"
819.0 revs per mile.

225/45 specs
Sidewall: 4.0"
Radius: 12.5"
Diameter: 25.0"
Circumference: 78.5"

with a 215/45, speedometer is 1.4% too fast. speedo is going to be .9mph off.
with a 225./45, speedometer is 0,0%too fast. speedo is going to be 0.0mph off

looks to me, the specs are A LOT closer on a 225 than a 215.

Go with 225's if you want the closest to stock, I choose 235's when I went with 17's

Not to continue adding fuel to the fire because I honestly don't care but alot of employers care alot more about real world experience and time in a profession over a freshly graduated college kid who has zero actual experience. Just sayin, a college education doesn't automatically mean ur going to have this incredible career anymore like it used to.

Typically if a decent guy that knows his @!#$ about whatever his profession may be tells me this is what I need I'm going to need in his field I'm going to listen
