I made the same mistake too when I first got my 98. I didn't believe the tech, so I made him go out and show me. Yeah, my face was red.

Not true you can put on spark plug wires on the ld9. Many people here on the org have them
as well as my buddy Dj. Search and you will it.

I never said it wasn't possible, I just said they didn't have them. I know many people who have done it myself as well, although its not cheap.

Heh, that's funny. I had 8.5 mm I put on my sunfire. Put 8.5 on my wife's storm. Then on her cavalier when she had it. Had one set left over. We bought the set for a V8 to save money, put the tips on ourselves. Anyways had one set left over. I went to put the on my Z one day and lo and behold there were no wires. I was suprised as I was kinda new to performance back then.
Oh yeah. Why would you wanna put coils and wires on it anyways?
They don't have spark plug wires, but they do have spark plug "boots".. Which are just a short wire.. I'm suprised no one said that yet. There is aftermarket boots by Rksport as well.

Currently, the ONLY way to put aftermarket coils on the car, is to switch to an aftermarket coil / controller system like MSD DIS-2 6211 or 6212. The MSD allows control of the spark timing, allowing you to advance or retard timing based on modifications. It can also provide a higher energy spark, resulting in more complete combustion of the reactants.

def will apply more spark power and over a longer range of time during the combustion cycle.... 20 degrees to be exact.
Shifted, using an aftermarket ignition isn't the only way to run an aftermarket coil setup. You can run them with the stock module setup. Its just a matter of a little creative wiring and your set. I run a setup with the stock module/ ign design on my 2.3 but with individual coils mounted on the firewall and some short MSD wires to the plugs.
is there a power gain from just upgrading to MSD ignition, without boost or all that?

if you dont retard the timing because it wouldnt be necessary without boost, but just made a more powerful spark, i dont see what the point would be
Is there a write-up on how to add coils to a LD9? A friend wants to do this, I had a 2.2L engine and took the coil off that and gave it to him, he just needs to know how to do the wiring... any help with this?
