Engines are exactly the same from 98 to 2002.

They dyno at more around 115. It actually depends on who does the dyno. Machines do vary some.

...a 120 hp stock motor won't do 115 at the wheel....

It seems like 2200 autos are around 80 or so

115hp at the crank, figure about 92whp with a manual or about 86whp with a slushbox. Absolutely ferocious in it's stock form...

Trust me. I own one.

i herd if u do it right close to to 250HP if u do it all right

Re: 2200 sfi HP

if your gonna push it over 200 hp you will want to replace the rods with forged units...pistons you will already have replaced cause you will need more than the stock 9.0:1 compression. i loved the 2200 in my 99 fire...very willing little engine...however when mated to the 3 speed auto it was...slow...if your gonna really max out a 2200 id swap it to stick if yours isnt already.

You wont ever break 200whp na with a 2200. The best 2.4L N/A is 250whp(karo b4 juice). There is one head (assuming its built right)and an intake brings you to about 100whp. You will need nitrous or boost to ever even hope of getting clsoe to 200whp. Especially considering you belive there are 2 heads on your engine.

I think you got confused and are thinking of the 108 speed limiter.

should be 120 hp at the flywheel.....buttdynoed at around 100hp to the ground probably less though.

1) its a 2200 OHV (Over Head Valve)
2) I dyno'ed my stock 2200 5-speed @ nopi 2001 and got 106 to the wheels
3)Yes you will need forced induction or nitrous to get to the 200hp mark
4) You'll have to upgrade internals before even getting serious with those types of numbers
5) The most you're looking at with a fully built 2200 and I mean built is around 170-180ish! (Pnp'ed head with 5angle valve job, rods, full race bearings, aggresive cam, ported intake mani, pistons, full exhaust, custom crank, lightened flywheel,LSD, CAI or WAI, and my gosh the list go on and into much better detail! And I didn't even get into the fuel delivery mods!

Hopefully PJ or Adler will come into here and say alittle bit more that I missed! L8r

AEM dyno'd my car at 100 HP Stock (at the wheels), then 105 HP w/ Intake (at the wheels).

I have an automatic 2200.

Re: 2200 sfi HP

well Teh Jeffie managed to get his ohv to pump out 170hp with bumped up compression and that was about it...

the potential is there, but a lot of people would rather play with the twin cams because they have a higher starting point

BBall is right tho, all motor you can get the ohv to about 170, 180 hp with bolt ons and some internals, then throw some spray at it for that extra kick at the track... or you can strap on a turbo and the 2200 @ 10psi or around there should be making 210hp at the wheels.

If you search carefully, there's even some fully built OHVs that are putting out over 300hp or damn close to it on about 20psi of boost.... search "FULLY BUILT OHV FINALLY HOME" or something of that nature in the performance section...

hp and torque numbers vary with the modifications... but at 10psi I see nothing lower than 200 numbers in both the horsepower and torque figures.

10psi is stable with stock bottom end... how long it'll last I'm not sure, but it will withstand it for a period....

Things you should watch out for on the OHV is the cooling system. I have problems with it air-locking and F-ing up constantly. Just keep track of your temp gauge, and make sure you have a 185 degree thermostat in there... its not 195 like everyone thinks.
Also make sure its filled with a 50/50 mix of dexcool and water and make sure that level is enough. You can see what happens in my sig when you don't... warping heads isn't cool.

The other advantage of OHV engines is if they break, they're cheap to replace. YOu can get a spare OHV in a junkyard or on ebay for $300 or less usually as a buy it now price. If you went to a junkyard you could probably get it cheaper. I know this is what I'm doing when I build my turbo engine with fully forged internals and a crap load of more goodies than my engine now is going to have (check my registry for my upcoming mods)

Probably the most powerfull street driven turbo 2200 is being built by someone in my area, I believe he posts as Luc Bertrand on here. 500hp.$$$$$$$

That bastard lived right next to me for all that time and never told me about this! All he ever said was that he got his tranny modified to lower gears! Bahhh too bad he's in jersey now

And I need proof also man! Its kinda hard ot hear you come onto this board stating you're spraying a 100shot and pushing over 200 to the wheels on a 2200 cav! I think all I would need is a mildly detailed list of what you have done to the engine and skip all the regular stuff like the stuff I mentioned up top! Give me the juicy details!

I have $5 on - any takes?

i've got to say, that if the stars line up right, 200 hp on a N/A 2.2 is possible, but the cost of parts will definatly out weigh something like a supercharged 3.8 swap. 240hp out of the box.

go .30 over on the pistons, forged bottom end, a friggin nascar cam, oversized stainless valves, some serious porting on the head, a fat and short runner intake manifold, some valve springs that will take 8,000 rpms. yeah, it's possible, but you wouldn't want this engine during rush hour or traffic of any kind.

Oh GOD here we go with (come up here I will race and beat you BS) lets face the facts I am not going waste my time and go all the way up to Ontario to make someone cry. Ok yea sure I am full of lies about my Cav ( I keep on forgetting my car has been in Sport Compact a couple of times) and remind me why I have a automotive degree and own my own tuner shop here in Southern California. I wonder why I even waste my time. With @$$holes.
