Ok, sometimes im jsut driving down the road at whatever speed it is and the speedometer will drop straight to 0 and then like a while later it might come back to normal and sometimes it drops again and back and forth.
There is no mods to anything in the dash or spedo at all. Could it be a lose tranny wire?
Ive taken the dasha part to see if anything was lose behind it and its all good and tight.

sounds like it could be either a short somewhere, or a bad ground. i have the same problem with my beater, but i dont care to fix it, lol

in my 1994 Gran Am and well at time when i make an emergency stop and just f'ing around the speedometer would work like a tack instead of a speedometer can u explain that one,

im just playing but what wires would i check to see if it might be a tranny wire that has is starting to break or wearing thin? What color are they and where are they? Ive looked but i cant find em...then again i am color blind...hmmm

My car had the speed controled volume in it...i thought that my stereo may have been teh prob....but i checked and everything in there seems to be fine...what wire is in that stupid harnes that could be messing me up?
And is there an easier way of getting that stupid black trim off my dash, that was a pain in my rear

could very well be a VSS ( vehicle speed sensor)

its the vss. mine did the same thing and it would jump around to all different speeds. if it is that, when you replace it or whoever replaces it, look at the vss and see if theres any metal on it. i know people that when their vss went, within like a month or so, their tranny also went.
the speedo doesn't jump, its just like my speedo literally shuts off and then back on, but ill check the sensor. I have a feeling its either in my tranny or in the wiring that comes from my tranny to wherever that is.

Lokk right below the Brake master cylinder .. I believe the colors are purple and yellow .. 2 wire plug. 1 10mm bolt holds it in. That should help you out.

Hit 200 NA it broke once, Hit 213 it broke again,
Hitting 300 NA is further away than I thought.
I hate to be a pain, but the only purple one i see that looks like its going to the tranny is a single all by itself with some plug or fuse in it or something thats mounted to the engine, but ill go check again tomarrow

could be a few things , either bad signal on the VSS or bad guage cluster
on my old 88 grand am the speedometer only went to 110 and i put the car up to 117 and then it started not working all the time

do u have a 2.4? My friend did and there is a wire back behind your cd player that might of gotten snipped and that woud make your speedo do that, it is a purple wire for the VSS that sounds like the problem.

mine does it from time to time..when I start the car it will just stay at 0..then I bump the top of the dash once or twice and it's fine....I'm not worried....try slapping it
slapping it doesn't work...wish it did tho. Today my speedo decided to be a tach for about 5 seconds. lol i was jsut pulling to a stop sign and gave it a lil rev to take off and the speedo went up to about 25 mph. lol weird

if your looking for your vss, its under the car. you cant get to it from the hood, you have to jack the car up and go under.
on a 2.4 its in the dash the vss is its behind the cd player its a purple wire

sounds like vss to me. i know one wires purple comes ot the back of the tran on the rear side driver sideish. if that makes any sense. well on my 2.2 5spd thats where it is
