i have a 2000 2200 cavalier, all i have really is a ebay intake and a universal exhaust. my question is why does my car seem so slow. i have a friend with the exact same car and his is stock. but last time we were playing around at his ranch( it has a very long paved straightaway) and he pulled away from me like one car length. is my car a piece of crap or is something wrong with it that the computer may not be picking up?
well from looking at your reg, it says automatic. is his stick? if it is, it could be that he is a better drive.
no his is an automatic just like mine, almost everything is identical on the car like mine except for the mods that i have. and he doesnt change the oil regularly or nothing. i change mine regularly with valvoline synpower.
you might want to put some injector cleaner in your fuel tank. when the injectors get dirty on my fire the thing bogs like hell

are you sure he has the same exact car same engine every thing, and maybe you are heavier...the car i mean, im sure you subs and amp weigh a good amount and if he has nothing and your body kit if he has just a basic bumper

he might have the 2.4 in his car. which will blow you away. you have around 115 hp a 2.4 has around 150 hp stock.

no he does not have the 2.4 because my friend with a grand am has the 2.4 and he wups me real bad. plus he has the box on top of the valve cover that says 2200 sfi too. and i think as soon as my car shifts out of first gear he starts to leave me behind. we take off the same but by the time my car shifts out of first he starts to leave me and by the time we hit like 80 he is a car sometimes a little more in front of me. and he also has a system because he is not really into cars more into trucks and he just put the system to have some bass i guess.
anyone else? should i just take my car somewhere to get it tested on the computer?
does he have a 4 speed auto and you have a 3 speed auto? if so, the gearings are different, which might give him a slight advantage.
I say use dirty tricks to win. Put some duct tape over half of his air filter when he's not looking. ::evil laugh::

You do not have the same engine. My 97 Has the throttle body on top of the valve cover, your '00 has it behind.Certain things changed after 98. The two engines are not the same. I say run some fuel injector cleaner. Use as much of the tank as you can before you fill up so you don't dilute it. Also get a good air filter like K&N, it won't make a huge difference but it just might be what your missing. If that doesn't work, consider another power upgrade. Maybe get your pistons and connecting rods replaced with something lighter.. Or you could just swap in a stick shift and blow him away.

well i am pretty sure that i have the four speed and he does to. and my throttle body is behind the valve cover. it connects to the big black box on top of the engine.but i think that his is also behind the valve cover in the back but any ways ill get it checked and other than that i will just add other mods to make it faster.thanx
not all cars perform the same. just because they are the same type of car with the same engine doesn't mean they're gonna perform the exact same.
plus with having a 2200 you should know you're gonna be slow.

plain and simple his might be a beast.... but um is your exhaust strait pipe with no cat or resonator? Because my friend was beating me by half to a full car then he got header which really opened it up and i was beating him by 1-2 cars! So maybe you dont have any back pressure but im guessing you just have the magnaflow muffler. I bet his just happens to be faster.

it also has alot to do with how the car has been treated over the years, build up, wear in the pistons, little stuff can slow you down, and some times you just cant get it back , take it and have it checked on a dyno, or just a diag. unit. you could also look into some or any form of weight reduction. i have a 2.2 cavy, 2000 and i got smoked by 2.4 cavys all the time, untill i started modding my engine, i have very little done and i can run with ecotech cavys i even beat one, the story is in the j-body versus forum under 2.2 vs ecotech. keep modding it, you will find the power somewhere, or hell cut a hole it the floor board and flenstone it wile you race that may help...lol just kidding good to see another 2200 tryin to run with the big boys..

Seafoam it ^^^^ Great stuff there^^^^ Ohh and R u fatter than him, cause weight plays a role in this too. he might not have all his spare tire, and not as may options as you, like power seats, or windows. Trust me it all adds up. Cause if its only 1 car, thats not too bad. you can do other stuff to over come that lengh. Does he have exhuast leaks, It can be all sorts of things you know. 1 hp here and there.
also i remember a while back that some guys took a stock 1992 civic. dyno'd it at 108HP @ wheels. then threw a fartcan on it.. it dyno'd 100HP @ wheels.. then they put CAI and it dyno'd 92HP @ wheels.. the civic lost power with mods.. maybe yours did too?

my friends 2.4 doesnt blow my 2.2 away. but thats a dif story. and yeah, i think my header and exhaust might be sucking my power away.
