what do they stand for? i hear ppl refering to it.

They refer to the older Quad4 engines, HO = High Output Quad4, LO refers to the stock Quad4, it was never officially classified as a "low output". The "LO" is the only one that ever came in a J-Body, and it was a hybrid between the older LO's and the new 2.4L.

like for an intake manifold for my 2000 z what would be the best to use? does it matter?

If you aren't putting on boost or nitrous, I would suggest the LO, because you do gain HP, but you end up losing torque. The LO manifold would minimize your torque loss.

The plenum on the HO is larger.
