The "What's the Same" Thread (exterior)
Tuesday, March 15, 2005 10:42 AM
Thought this would be helpful to those of us who are switching parts between cars and also those of us who are planning mods for sale. Maybe one day it will be a sticky!

Please only post items that you are pretty sure are the same between cars/years. Please do not post questions, etc as we are trying to compile a list only.

Specific questions should be directed to the appropriate forum.

Also please feel free to add any items that definitely are NOT interchangeable.

So you will see what this is all about, I will start with the first post (see below)

The inner hood areas are identical for the Cavaliers for the years 95-02

Includes Z24s

and then different than the 95-02 , but the same for Cavaliers 03-05

Quick List of Goodies:
1) Hoods on 3rd Gen J-bodies are the same for that car from 95-02, 03+ is different.
2) Fenders are all the same on 3rd Gen Jbodies
3) Three different bumpers for 3rd Gen: 95-99, 00-02, 03+
4) Trunk lids for cavaliers are same throughout 95+
5) Trunk lid for sunfires changed in 03
6) Side skirts are interchangeable between sunfires and cavaliers.
7) Some side skirts are interchangeable between 4door and 2door jbodies (ex. Importfighter, z24, buddyclub 2, anything that does not flare up at all)
8) If you have 00-02 base model cav, and you want the z24/LS lips, the easiest part would be the buy the whole front bumper. There are many holes cut into the bottom side of the bumper for the clips to run through. You can do it yourself, but it takes time. You decide.
9) Yes there are convertible jbodies. It would be very hard though to convert you non-convertible into one. I suggest against it, just go out and buy one.
10) Yes a targa-top (sp?) Can be done, but will lots of fabrication. If you know what you are doing, then I do not have to explain what needs to be done. If I need to explain, you have no business even thinking about it.

From the FAQ at the top of the page!!!

That should get you started if not sum it up.

Not entirely true! Appearance wise, yes they are the same and will bolt right up. However the 95-99 cavalier fender have a bracket spot welded on for the corner light to attach to, and 00+ fenders do not. Just some heads up.

Center Consoles will interchage between 95-03 J-bodies.

Convert 00+ headlights to 95-99
