This is a REALLY simple mod that took me maybe 5
minutes... Disabling the annoying DRLs... All you'll
need is a piece of 16 gauge wire, electrical tape,
something to cut 16 gauge wire, a ratchet & a 1/2"
socket...

Pull the carpet back on the driver side "kick panel"
area & locate the "BCM" which is marked with a white
sticker reading "BCM"...

There are 2 blue plugs & 1 smaller purple plug plugged
into the BCM. Unplug the middle plug by pulling back
the blue tab. It will slide right out...

Turn the plug so that you can see the wire side.
You'll notice that there are 2 sets of wires, 1 is
lightly marked "A", the other, "B". There are holes
for 12 wires in each set but not all the holes are
filled...

Locate the ONLY dark blue wire of the bunch. Most say this
wire is in "A", however I've known several people,
including myself, who have found it to be in "B"
instead. Either way, it's the ONLY dark blue wire
there & is the one which controls the DRLs...

Now seperate the blue wire just enough from the others
to work with it. Cut it about 2-2&1/2" from the plug.
strip the covering of the wire coming from the plug
to expose an area of bare wire...

Take a piece of 16 gauge wire and strip the covering
from an area on both ends to expose bare wire...

Now twist one end of the new wire with the end of the
2-2.5" piece of dark blue wire coming from the plug &
tape it up with electrical tape...

Take the ratchet w/ 1/2" socket and follow the
steering column. You'll see 2 1/2" bolts attaching the
steering colum. Loosen 1 of them & attach the other
end of the new wire, then tighten up the bolt. These
bolts make a good ground as there's no paint, just
bare metal...

Now you can tape the other end of the cut wire coming
out of the firewall if you like or just tuck it behind
the carpet...

Plug the plug back in, tuck the excess wire behind the
carpet & you're done!

The first time you start your car after doing this,
the instrument panel DRL light may or may not flash a
few times, mine didn't but others have said their's
have... But they're off, your headlights & corners
work when turned on but the DRLs do not come on &
there won't be any lights on in the instrument panel!

Compliments of Cavi Freak (or something like that)

Hey man your post had me curious. I also have a '03, and I just turned my DRL's of in 10 seconds (previously had no idea ho to do this by the way). The post in the library tells you exactly how to do it. But if you're lazy like I usually am, Iwill enlighten you. On the drivers side of your dash is your fuse panel. Open it up, and there is only one large black box. It is about and inch square. Just pull it out, it's that simple. I didn't have any porblems with my pass side high beeam going out like the post in the library said it would. Seriously, this is a 10 second mod. I personally hate cars with DRLs. To me it takes away from the other aspects of the car with lights on all the time.

OK you pulled the relay. Now turn your headlights on and look at both of them closely.
Now reinstall the relay. Look again at the lights. Do you see how the driver's side was very dim when the relay wasn't there. you can't drive like that at nite. also look at the dash lites that come when you pull the relay. you don't want that there. it gets annoying after a while (not knowing if it is there because of the DRL or something is really wrong.
Do as SandStorm-J says. This works great. I did it to my car after tring what you did and didn't like the results.

I had no problem with headlights at all, they are both the same. In both high and low. As far as the service light coming on, it doesn't really matter to me, I have a data logger/scan tool installed on my car, so it tells me what is wrong. I have a picture up on my dash that covers it up, so it being on does not bother me.

Yes you did. I, along with many other members of this org, know how the electrical in these cars work (at least the lighting) and I know you had the problem STLWACO is describing. STOP LIING!!!

Wait til something else happens to your car and you don't know about it

Okay, here's a question.

Why are the DRLs considered 'annoying'?

I don't see anything wrong with them.

They cuase your lights to burn out quicker qnd if you pull up the e brake they go off only for a second so if you are trying to go stealth and hide were cops cant see you in the dark and leave you car running it is the best way to go in my opinion.

ive had my cav for almost 4 years now and i never had a headlight go out. also why you need to hide from the cops? if your just out sitting some where parked, just click the ebrake once and they will go off

I invite you to come look at my car and tell me that there is any difference. I have looked at my lights multiple times. With or with out the relay, and I can GARAUNTEE there is no difference in my lights either way. Why I don't know. Do I doubt that you know what you're talking about with the electronics? No I do not. All I am saying is simply this. I took the relay out of my car, and it changed nothing with the lights, except now my DRLs are not on, that it is it. That is what my goal was, and that's all it did. If it did mess something up, I would not even have posted anything in here about how I did it, as I would not want to have someone try it and cause them a problem. However obviously it does cause problems that I am not having, so don't do it my way, take the few extra minutes and go through it how SandStorm described in his post, I am going to do it that way today, but for now this is fine for me as it caused no problems with MY lighting.

Did you actually read my post??? The reason I'm not worried about the light at the moment is that I have a scan tool/data logger in my car, it tells me when something is wrong in my car, so until this afternoon when I do it according to your post it's fine by me to have the light on, cause if something was to happen between the time I took out the relay (Friday night) and this afternoon (Monday) I would have known about it.

I don't see a problem with the DRL's. My car is 8 years old and so far has never had a headlight or tail light go out in it. I'm sure I'm due for it soon though.

i disabled mine because i like driving with just the amber turn signals on and no headlights during the daytime. it looks like the corvettes and camaros the way they have their running lights setup. its a much sharper and more professional look than having dimmed yellowish lights running at all times that dont match any of the rest of your lighting.

I think they are annoying, because they are on at half power when i drive with my headlights off during the day, and they they look more like stock headlights rather than the ones I bought. Plus the side marker/turn signals get annoying to be on all of the time also.
