i have a 2000 cavalier with a 3speed auto
im thinking about (in the far future
) swapping an ecotec 5spedd into my car
wut all is needed and is this a hard swap?
from wut i understand its "pretty much" plug n play
wiring and all that jazz is the same right?
stupid bryan i had to splain how to change a vavle cover gasket and you STILL didnt do it yourself! now an engine!
good luck with the engine, youll need awhole new ecm and wiring harness and @!#$.

even if its a 2000? LYC said differently...
not to mention converting over to stick
i know that an engine swap is not gonna be plug and play.
i was under the impression that a 2000+ ecotec swap was one of the easier ones to do?
First id like to say hello. im a new member and this site has answered a bunch of ?s that i had but ive got one more, i have a 2002 2.2 non ecotec auto and i was wondering what is the true potential of this motor? Also would the cost of an ecotec swap be more than its actually worth or not? thanks for your time.
heh, why not just wait? i mean wait till the 2.4 ecotect supercharged starts being made(the one going into the ion redline?) that or the cobalt SS and swap in one of those engines your looking at probably 2k for the engine then youll have to buy the wiring harness(prob about 500 not sure never bothered to check for wiring harnesses new) axles, transmission, total probably about 4-5k,
for that much you could have your engine beating those any day of the week
zex kit 500
custom turbo (including custom headers and exhaust) 1700 or so
p&p 2-300
forged pistons/rods ?hmm im guessing if you can find them 400 not sure though
wicked
Cool man thanks i didnt think about that. see im limited on my links to cavy parts right now but im gaining a bunch by looking around here. and i defiantly aint got that kinda money to hand over anytime soon. thanks wicked
yea wicked i wanted to swap the 2.0 supercharged engine into the cav too
we can all dream
why not just ask Dj how much fun hes had doing this swap? the only thing he didn't do is swap out the tranny, auto vs stick.
dave, wasnt his a pre 2000 tho?
doesn't matter the ECO didn't come out till mid 02 anyway to my knowledge. you will be able to keep internal harnesses but all the engine wiring has to be changed. transmission mount has to be changed. cut out the old on and a new one welded in. all of your accessories should bolt right up though, like the alternator, a/c. the best thing i can recommend is to talk to suncavi i think it is hes has done more swaps than anyone I know. not that there haven't been others but he sticks out for me.
but DJ tore apart his interior... was that jjust cuz he wanted new one?
