Beginners Q after reading some of the site
Sunday, April 10, 2005 4:02 PM
ok i don't mean to thread anything but i just thought i would ask this anyhow.

Alright i have an 03' Cavalier and it has the top speed limiter thingy on it(112 mph max i think). From reading this site taking that off is a bad thing if i'm not mistaken,so I'm not sure if i should do it.But i also want to put performance parts in my car also.So by keeping the limit on and adding the performance parts, wouldn't that be defeating the purpose if i could still only go 112 max?And also, not naming any names now, what percentage of people on here do u guys think have removed the speed limiter? I guess i want to figure out if its even worth doing(limiter and parts).

you drive a cavalier, not a race car, you would look silly going past 100mph in a cavalier. dont bother removing it because its unsafe to go that fast anyhow......

the reason why people remove the speed limiter is because they go faster than 108 mph on a 1/4 mile drag strip. and if they are already gonig that fast on a track, then they should already know how to remove the limiter.
you should have no reason to go that fast on the street

thats pretty much it. also by adding performance parts, that doesnt defeat the purpose if you still have the gov. you can have a full turbo set up, be pretty fast and still have the gov. its not going to change anything except the fact you'll top at 108. theres no reason to go that fast on the streets anyway

I agree with all of them.

Is almost a paradox...
If you wanna go faster then 108 mph (for whatever reason) dont drive a cavalier.
If you wanna drive a cavalier, you cant go faster then 108 mph.

This of coarse only applies to people who want to go fast soley for the dumb reason of going fast.

Let's suppose you line up with another car ata streetlight vrroom vroom rev rev and all of that. What do you think the chances are, even with alot of mods, that your going to actually get to 108 over the course of say, a city block?

removing it is pointless and stupid....if you want to make yourself faster then

1 you are doing it for 1/4 mile times and even then you will be lucky to trap 108 in the 1/4

2 your doing it cause your stupid and want to go faster on the streets which is stupid and half the time impossible with traffic and traffic lights etc

3 you are an idiot and go that fast on the highway in which case you will die when you make good freinds with a guard rail or an other obstacle you are gonna hit

4 your doing it for track racing in which case you wouldnt be driving a cavalier, and even if you were you wouldnt be asking this question

there are actually quite a few cavaliers and sunfires that trap faster than 108 in the 1/4 mile. however, it takes a very large amount of money to get your car going that fast.

in other words, if you are planning on going balls to the walls all out on speed only, then by the time you are ready to go faster than 108 in the 1/4 mile, you will have all the info you need to disable the speed governor. until then, don't worry about it.

even if street racing.......if you haven't beaten him by 108, your not going to.

and modding to me isn't about top speed, for me its about accelleration, i love flooring it and having your passenger snap his head back

Take it from someone that has it done, Its not worth it I have had my car for 6 years .. I have used the override a total of 2 times, 1 time on the highway and never again and 1 time on an airport strip. My car has alot of suspension and engine work done to it, I was also 25 woth 9 years driving experiance, and still did likle the feel of a 2800 lbs car floating towards the side of the interstate. Just leave the govoner on and don't worry about it. Like everyone has said, IF YOU GET TO 108 TRAP SPEED YOU WILL KNOW HOW TO REMOVE IT. Other wise leave it alone.

Just do the mods for accel and looks not top speed. Have you ever seen a drag race on TV made from top speed no !!

Hit 200 NA it broke once, Hit 213 it broke again,
Hitting 300 NA is further away than I thought.
