95 to 2002 Engine and trans swap:Need Advice

I own two Cavaliers

1 1995 115.000 mile 2.2 Cavalier coupe Manual
and
1 2002 20.000 Mile 2.2 Cavalier Coupe Auto.

My 2002 is hooked up for show but has very little go
my 95 is was hit by a deer and looks ugly and old

I want to make my 2002 stick@!#$ but it turns out that it's expensive for a local shop to swap a trans from 95 to a 2002 when there diffrent. meaning Auto to Stick

It would cost me anywhere from $600-$1500

On the other had I could just swap the engine and the trans and do it myself with some help with my friends since I have all the tools and wouldn't need modtifications to the Engine's computer .

My plains were to just rebuild the 1995 Cavaliers engine and upgrade it with tons of performace parts. Then when it's ready just drop it in the 2002.

I guess what I'm asking is what would you do in this situation?

Different transmissions in the 95-99's and 00-02's.

Think again... computer communicates with the transmission (to a limited extent in the 3 speeds, but a LOT in the 4 speeds). Plus its not as easy as dropping one and bolting on the other, you actually have to weld new mounts in.

i understand that the computers are diffrent and wouldn't work but i was going to take out the 1995 computer and put it in the 2002. When I do the engine and trans swap.

welding a new engine mount I can do but getting a 95 trans in a 2002 I can't and would take a professional

when I said it didn't need modifications to the computer i said that because i heard if i wanted to swap the trans with out just taking the whole engine out aswell the computer would need re flasking?

is that correct

Can't do that either with the computer. The 2000's and up have 3 or 4 little computers that control everything, most importantly, the BCM. The 95-99's don't have that, and the cluster in your 2002 needs the BCM to be able to display information. The 95 cannot be flashed to the 2000+ ecu "software".

Pretty much, swap out the cluster, all the sensors (95 are OBD-1, 96-2005 are OBD-2), computer, all the wiring....

Probably be cheaper (and easier) to find a low mileage 5 speed for the 2000-2002 2200's and put that on there, you wouldn't have to swap the wiring, sensors, and cluster then, just reflash the PCM, weld in the new mount, and put it on.

the 1996 trans wouldn't work with the 2002?
