I have a 2005 pontiac sunfire.........I want to enhance the performance of my car. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing!! I want to be able to show people that it's not "just a sunfire"!! Quite frankly I'm getting so confused as to what to buy or not to buy. I don't even know where to start. I'm absolutely clueless!! What's going to help increase the performance of my car? What do I buy? Also, I have to be careful because of the warranty right? Any help would be appreciated.
the best help your prolly gonna get out of anyone on this site is in the first post in this forum.
the FAQ
it has great info on what to buy and what not to buy. decide what you want out of the car and go from there
dont worry about your warrenty
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
Naomi just take your time , you don't have to start buying differnt things right off the bat . Just bounce around the forum and see what other people are using and saying . But it all will come down to what all you are wanting out of your car . As you can see with mine I really wanted to go for more ( a lot more ) . If you are looking to install an intake on your car then don't buy the drop in K&N filter . The intake will come with a cone filter , that way you can save some money by not buying something you will ditch later on . Next maybe the exhaust ( just a muffler or a cat. back system ) . The muffler will give you a better sound ( check with what other people are using , Just because a muffler sounded good on an import does not mean it will sound good on our cars ) . Later on you could move up to replacing the T/B with a larger T/B . From there you could move to getting a header and preferrably a better flowing cat. conv. and down pipe . Later you could do a cam swap that is when you will really start getting into the peformance area . After that forced induction .
Another thing is beware of E-Bay and some of the scams that are on there . Performance is not cheap so when you do start leaning towards the performance side , youc will get what you paid for . Since it is your car then spend what you can when you buy the parts that way you know what is going into it and that it is not cheap parts . Another thing is to hang round the performance forum and the 3rd Gen forum and you will learn enough .
You are starting off with a very good engine to build and YES you can get quite a bit of performance out of it . Right now you have the opportunity to figure out what you are wanting from your car before you have sunk a lot of money into parts that you will replace or not use .

I personally have an AEM cold air intake, a 2.25" Vibrant exhaust (with the muffler) and a Vibrant front strut tower bar. I also have a pacesetter header and and hi flow cat on it's way. So like Mr. Goodwrench said, the intake and the exhaust i would be a good start. Believe me, you'll be happy with the gain if you invest your money right, so get all the info you need before you do something. There's enough people here so you WILL have all the info you want.
I can't thank you all enough for your help......I'll keep reading and learning. In the meantime any help or knowledge that anyone offers will be more than appreciated!! Thanks again!!
i got an 04 sunfire so i can offer some help with things, im not as knowledgeable as some people on here but i know my fair share
I can offer some advice, as I just started a buildup on my car. I have a CAI from Vibrant as the only mod. Let me know if you want some more ideas, or just check out my profile under "future". You can always e-mail me, and AIM works too.

Ban low-performance cars, not high-performance ones.
