I removed my rear spoiler and am now trying to think of a way to replace my 3rd brake light, outside of making something custom with a bunch of red led's i haven't been able to come with anything. Just wondering if anyone else has replaced there when removing the spoiler. Not quite sure if the coupe had an option to come from the factory without the spoiler, in which case i could get a factory rear deck, but i've never seen one, so i don't believe they are in existance.
there are factory rear decks with the third brake light on them. you can possibly find one in a salvage yard (
http://www.car-parts.com) or a dealership. just put that in place of your stock rear deck and hook up the wires, really easy to do.
If your car has a 3rd brake light it is against the law to remove it. It is considered saftey equipment I think.
In MN you only legally need 2 brake lights in "standard locations"

yea, when i had my neon i drove it the whole time i had it (1 year, 5 months) with the bulb burned out in the 3rd brake light. never had a problem with any cops about it. honestly, i don't see the point of a third brake light, most of them are so small anyways.

i just dont need to give them any other reason to pull me over, in all honesty i haven't had one since i painted the car in october, just been putting if off. Either way i've decided on what im doing, im taking a plain black plastic case (digikey.com), inserting about 20 red leds into one side and wiring it to the factory harness. Then i'll just mount it to the rear deck, atleast then its a nice clean install and also removable if i ever put the spoiler back
