Noob here.. Saying hello and asking some questions

"Hello Everybody"...
"Hi DR Nick"

Now that thats out of the way a bit of info. I have been hovering around the board for a few days. I had looked at a 98 Z24 on Sat and decided to buy it today. Now I have grown up around cars for as long as I can remember. I helped my Dad buld a 78 Monza with a 350 Small block Dragster nearly 27 Years ago. However having spent the last number of years fixing Computers my automotive skills have gotten a bit rusty. I was wondering if anyone would be able to point out some of the pitfalls of the Z24 and quirks that accompany it. After driving it now for a whole 4 hours I can honestly say I haven't had a smile on my face like this in years. One thing that is bugging me tho is the Air Bag light and SeatBelt light remain lit even when in drive. Everthing else seems fine and these by themselves are just annoying. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts.

Thanks

Guess I'll be the first to say hello. Have a look around the maintenance forum, use the search feature in there and the odds are pretty good that'll you'll be able to get some kind of idea of how to reset those lights. Wish I could tell you what the issue is, but- like you, I grew up around small-block Chevys and Chryslers, which means I am only now learning about the mystical properties of warning lights and all that jazz, lol.

hello, well from what i understand (seeing as i dont have a 2.4) that you need to make sure theres always enough oil or bearing #3 like to go out on ya and the water pump is quite a fun job to replace...also...dont let anyone sell you "hi-performance" spark plug wires

Welcome!!!

Only thing as far as here goes ya really have to watch out for is to remember to search before asking a question (some people are picky about that).

Other than that... if anything sounds fishy or too good to be true, ask before buying. There's been a few scammers on this site that have been taken care of... but no matter what site you're a part of there's always going to be someone looking to make a quick buck and rip people off.

For the most part this is a wonderful site, tons of information on your car is available, and there's plenty of helpful people on this site as well. If ya have any exterior questions I'd be happy to help ya out (been doin auto body and paint for years).

Other than that feel free to ask if you have any questions and welcome to our little family!!!

Thanks for the info guys. I will look over the library and see what I can find. As far as the water pump goes I had to replace the WP in my 93 Ford Areostar van. The pump shaft sheared in half while I was going 70. I pulled into a local AutoZone and replaced the sucker right there in the parking lot with whatever tools they had on hand. Granted I started at 7pm and finished up around 12:30. So it can't be as bad as that or as bad as the time I had to replace the timing belt in a Mazda 626.

the water pump on the z24 and the one on your van is totally different.
to replace the water pump on a 2.4 costs about $700. its not the pump that is expensive, its the labor. its not as easy as you might think

Ok Borsty I work cheap not Free. Yes Tabitha We had a 350 small block in a 78 Monza ( It was pushing 400 horses at the time). Then dad sold it 4 days before my 16th birthday and.. and.. "sob" he got me an anemic 77 Nova straight 6 in it's place. It was something about "You will get your self killed and I am not dealing with your mother if that happens." Right now I am putting my upgrade path together on the Z24. This is how it currently maps out.

1. Replace the Front Discs with the Wilwood 4 piston kit.
2. Replace the Exaust Headers and Factory Muffler
3. Replace the Wheels with some Low profile Enkeis and some sticky Rubber.
4 Replace the stock Fuel injectors and Fuel Pump.
5. Get a Beefier Cluch and pressure plate
6. Update the Suspension.

I hope to hit one of these a quarter if I can. More than likely it will take much longer than that (life has a tendency to crop up when you have other plans) But at least I have a plan.

sounds like you have a good plan.
