are the bosch platinum 4 plugs bad for the 2.4 if so why?

You will find both pros and cons here about the Bosch Platinum +4 plugs. I have been using them for over 6 years in my 98 Z24 and have had no problems with using them. Some folks here have tried them and have had problems. If you want to try them, keep your receipt. If you are not satisfied with them, Bosch will refund your money. I would suggest to try them and see how they perform in your car. IMO.

they are already installed in my 2000 2.4 sunfire gt but im wondering if they could be the source of my backfiring problem that im having.
might as well save yourself some $ and get the ac delco's...there going to work just as good if not better then the bosch 4's

I've heard both good and bad things about the Bosch Platinums. The issue is not with the Bosch plugs so much as it is with the combo of Bosch plugs and our engines. They just don't seem to get along real well in many cases.
I'd suggest going with the AC Delco plugs instead. They are a perfect match for the car, and the quality of them is top notch

ya know i hate to ask this but if the bosch's arent getting along with my engine what are the "signs" i should be looking for?
My car hates Bosch. When I removed the plug, it was literally burnt, and was white, as if the car was running lean.
Your best bet is to just try something different and see how it works. Pay attention to how well it starts and check to make sure your gap is set correctaly before anything else.
after working at autozone for the past 2 yrs, ive noticed one thing over everything else.....GM + Bosch = Shatty running engine dont know why but they just dont work together, change your plugs back to ACs and all will be good...
i radiused my plugs, reduced the gaps to.040", and used 8mm hei wires from a 1983 olds 307sbv8. havent had any problems.
my car/engine is a 1994 cav./2.2L L4 OHV
I don't think Bosch plugs work good in any engine, the Mopar boys have problems with pinging with the Bosch Platinums, especially the Magnum V-8s. I haven't found any substantial number of people of various manufacturers that have had any success with Bosch plugs.

That sound's more like a timming issue than your plug's.
ya right the quality one the ones i bought were not so good they were supost to be pre gapped on was bent out of four and could gap it to specs and they look really cheap so i put bosh 4 in and no problems yet. here in ottawa ac delco were more expensive too like ten 71 plus tax bosh were 17 for two u do the math

so if it is the timing,how difficult is it to fix the timing on a2.4 ? cause it doesnt look like itwould be very simple. does anyone know how to fix the timing? idont.

thats because mopar v8s run 1lean/1lean and use better wires/coil resulting in hotter higher energy spark. combine that w/ bosch+4s which spark hot and they usually will ping/detonate.
they could run 1lean/2rich, and a 5kv resistor over the coil, eliminates ping but raises emmisions.

forgot to add that i had both 1975 440'B' and a 1977 400 'B' engines, had same lean running problem til i used above solution.
I run NGK iridiums and they improved my mileage and seem to perform great. Though the stock ones has alot of mileage on them.

I dunno I`m running stock coils and boots but alot of people use them, I dunno I'ev never heard complaints about them and I've been running them fora year. On the other hand I have heard alot of complaints about the +4s.

Please tell me you have not been running the same set of plugs for six years.
so i finally got around to buying new plugs . iwent with ngk iridiums however the shop guy says no need to adjust the gap they are supposed to be set already. so afterchecking the gap anyway ifind one is at .033 and .055 and .062and .060. now what im wondering is the haynes manual says for 1998 and later gap at .050 so do i go with the what the manual says or are they supposed to be gapped at .060?
i just installed them at .050 and seems to be fine unless they could be set at .060 but for now they stay as is..... oh and the platinum 4's they were carboned and frosty looking guess they are no good afterall

running rich and a little high speed glazing?
just widen the gaps @.055" that should reduce the carbon,
try using a colder plug to reduce high speed glazing,
of course a colder plug will add carbon build up so you set the gaps @ .055-.060".
those should reduce or eliminate the carbon and glazing.
(cold plug @ .060")
what do umean" colder plug" ? and so what youre sayin is it would be ok or be better if i gapped them to .055 or .060 ? i read somewhere if the gap is to big that can be bad
