Got Cel
Tuesday, July 12, 2005 4:00 PM
Ok this is about the 10th time my CEL comes on. After a while is usualy shuts off but this time it isnt. It has to do with a sensor in the gas tank or something like that. Tomorrow I have to pass an E test and they wont do it if the CEL is on. The guys at the garage say its just a faulty sensor a lot of Cavaliers have it. CAN I clear the code myself for tomorrow?

You can go to an autozone and have them clear it.

You probably have a bad gas cap or a bad wire harness on the EVAP box near the gas tank.

This happens often on my 95 sunfire. But if I start the car and let it sit for a few minutes, it usually doesn't come on.

Actually Autozone can't clear any code's,all they can do is scan the system to find out what code has been thrown. Only dealership's or someone with a re-flash can clear them. You can re-set your computer to get rid of the code by disconnecting the Negetive cable from your Battery for 20min's but it won't erase your History.

The bad gas cap is prolly the problem I still get a CEL every now and then if I don't get the cap back on tight enough since our Gas tank's/Fuel System are pressure sensitive.

The autozone by me clears them all the time. I can also clear them myself, as can anybody who goes to WalMart and buys a $90 code scanner, or has a software scanner. You don't need a re-flash to clear the codes, and just about any commercially available scanner will clear them.

^^^ Well that's great I wished they would do that here in Texas. Our wal-mart does'nt carry the scanner's. I've asked and I've looked for them myself to no prevail.

yeah autozone cannot clear them here, they actually ask you personally to press the erase button.. well the one down the road does.

just buy a code scanner.. it saved my life... going to autozone all the time is a pain in the arse. plus, if my car dies, its easier to scan the code right there than push it to autozone
