Does it have wires coming from it? if it does it is probably the thing that records your driving habits like 15 seconds before you crash or something like that..

Well I would hope it has some wires coming out of it . It would be ashame for GM to install black box's in cars that have nothing going to them . LOL[

I have an 04 cav and I dont have a black box. Maybe it is the seat belt wire harness like mentioned above. As for cars being able to record what you, many years now. Its only starting to become public knowledge. Your car "remembers" stuff for 15 sec. before an accident. All kinds of good stuff that your insurence company and the police can use against you. For example it records how much throttle is being depressed, what gear
the car is in, how load the radio is, if your wereing your seatbelt, if your passengers are wereing theres, if the lights are on, if your wipers are on, and even when you hit your brakes. Talk about big brother watching you!!

And yes they can use this information against you in court. There was a case in Florida where a Guy in a 02 W-S6 Ram Air Firebird hit an Acura and killed both girls in it. He
swore he was doing only about 75. When the data was pulled from his car it said otherwise. He was doing 147mph, the car was in 6th gear, the accelerator was fully depressed untill 10sec before the wreck. He was charged with 2 counts of 1st degree murder for the deaths of the girls. He was found guilty and is now spending the rest of
his life in prison. Some try to argue how can it be 1st degree murder? The state said that at those speeds he was fully aware that if he hit someone he would kill them. He
planned to go that fast so he planned to try and kill someone, so 1st degree murder
charges were brought and the jury found him guilty on both counts. Now he lives in a 6 x 6 cell for the rest of his life.

Try to remember this the next time your at a red light and some guy in a Honda starts to rev on you.

Close but not entirely correct. If records Point of Impact data. 3 secs before the crash, speed, brake pressure, air bag deployment, driver seat belt, and some other minor items. It does not record how loud your radio is, wipers, and other minor stuff like that. Only the stuff that matters to the automaker in a crash. Now true some law enforcment agencies can use this data but it's primary purpose is to keep auto makers out of hot water during a crash, like a person saying the brakes didn't work when he crashed and suing GM for faulty brakes. They can look at the data and say wait a minute. You were going 107 and didn't hit the brakes.

Read up on it some more. Now when OBD3 hits the market, all bets are off.

I have trouble believing they can link it to first degree murder. Thats a chain of logic that I dont believe would hold in court, if it did, he got screwed hardcore. Sure people know high speeds kill, so does that make going 26 in a 25 worthy of 1st degree, guarenteed 25mph and hitting a runner or biker, could kill them as well.

He wasnt trying to kill them, and had not pre planned speeding and hitting them. First degree is thought out, an accident is grounds for not knowing it was going to happen, is he responsible still? YES, first degree... no.

That would be like the argument of Guns kill people... no its the person operating them that kill people, or people leaving them out and loaded for a kid to mess around with. Its the operator that kills people.

Just heard this this weekend, if they link that guns kill people, then I sure can link bad spelling to my pencil or keyboard.

I never said it was right all I said is thats what this dudes in jail for the rest of his life because of. And A.15 anything that is controled thru the ecu or bcm can be down loaded. NOw if that excludes the wipers and radio on certain models that I don't know about.
