whats up! Newbie here, I own a 2003 Z06 but found my Girlfriend a 1999 covertible Z24 with 77k miles and need to get this neglected car back in shape, I was hoping I could get directed to the right places...
First of all the trans has a little slip if taking off in a uphill in the winter, Im just thinking changing trans fluid and filter will due, just wanted to know where to find the amount of fuild to refill because the car brought no Manual, also a quick DIY would come in handy...
BUT the biggest problem are the brakes, the rear brakes lock up everytime you gently press the brakes at low speeds, I changed all brake pads all the way around and the rears are adjusted to the least side, meaning if it work properly the rear brakes would brake as least as possible, after I did a trick my father told of, which was drive the car on reserve and slam on the brakes , then forward and slam on the brakes, the car ran fine for a few days but went back to braking alot on the rear brakes, the Drums are not perfect but I dont think are the problem here, I would I go about finding a DIY brake flush on these cars...
Im sure everyone's thinking that I might just leave it up to the shops to do this stuff, but after doing all the bolts on performance and maintenance to my corvette, Im confident I can get this car back in shape myself hopefilly,
thanx in advance for any help,
luis
For you brakes check the suspension and brake forum, and for your tranny, check the transmissions forum.
“Facts are meaningless. You could use facts to prove anything that’s even remotely true."
or for both, run a quick search in the maintenance forum. there could be answers in there.
if the tranny seems like its slipping, i heard it was bad to change the fluid
Bagged Cav is right on the fluid change. Take a look at it if it smeels burt bad don't change it cause you'll find you have no gears left at all. Its cause the old worn out fluid is thicker then the new stuff you'll be putting in and the pump wont be able to build any presure. If its slipping and smells burnt look for a stuff called Lucas transmission treatment this stuff actualy works very well.
As for the brakes check the rear brake hose it may be the problem.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
