2.4 DOHC to 2.4 Eco Swap
Saturday, August 06, 2005 4:17 PM
Does anyone know if it would fairly realistic to buy a 2.4 Eco out of a new SS and drop it into my 2001 Z24. As soon as it becomes a crate motor I am looking at doing this swap.. I want the VVT to see what all the fuss is about these damn VTECs

I'm at a dealership and I ain't seen these 2.4 ss cars yet, Not to say they aren't out there only I havent seen any yet. I also haven't seen anything asto anything about this engine. I'm pretty sure tho that it should be fairly similer to the 2.2 or 2.0 ECO . If I find anything out I'll keep you posted. Sorry but I dont think theres too much known about this thing yet.

Well, Thanks a lot guys.. It would be nice if it came as a crate motor, but if not ill just have to get one out of a cobalt. I have the stats on the motor and I know thats what I want, but as far as wiring.. my guess is that its harder than swapping out two motors that came with cavaliers than it is the cobalt and cavalier.

Also, seeing as they are motors out of the same family it might not be a very difficult swap, when my motor goes out I was gonna replace with another 2.4 or maybe an ECO, but I love my 2.4. I would really love a 2.4 Eco with VVT and 170 starting ponies.

Guess we will just have to see.. Thanks again

Spending the amount of money for a 170 HP car isn't all that great in my opinion. Yes, it has VVT but currently there isn't anything out to really modify that motor to really take advantage of the VVT motor. I say wait a while till they are fully out, people modify them and then look at what people do to them. The amount of money your spending on a swap and someone to swap it for you, you boost your current motor and gain more power.

That's just my opinion...

Thanks a lot HK.. That makes more sense, it wasnt something I was gonna do till more stuff was out. I was thinkin in 2-3 years when my motor has been boosted and blown by then. lol. I guess thats something else I will worry about later on.

BTW..
I saw your car at the bash and NONE of these pictures do it justice, Samantha sure is a thing of beauty. Talk to you later.

2-3 years is way more realistic of making some type of choice. Your 2.4 has just about as much potential as the new 2.4 VVT motor...so boost it, blow it up and swap it out LOL j/k

Thank you for the compliments. It's funny cause most people said that to me about pictures not doing it justice. My only issue was that I wish I fully waxed the car like I planned but things came up. But yes, Samantha is a sexy bitch when she is clean
