i have a 05 cavi, and barely know anything about the ecotec yet, but i figure that if you can put a vtec head on an ls motor, then can you put a 2.4 ecotec head on a 2.2 ecotec block? and what about a 2.0 head? and if you can what kind of numbers are we talking? one more question. what makes my stock cavi so quick? im sure that the torque has something to do with it. Thanks.
as far as i know, no, the 2.4 eco head wont bolt to the 2.2 eco or vice versa, but i believe the 2.0 eco and the 2.2 eco are compatible in just about everyway because the 2.0 is just a destroked 2.2 (different crank). and yes compared to alot of other cars in out HP range we have a good amount of torque, and torque is whats needed for off the line and short burst speed, i.e. stop light to stop light.

To add to that, the head on the 2.4 is VVT which means that it's controlled by the computer so even if it did bolt up, you would need to change the computer.
Pretty much most questions on bringing the 2.4 VVT motor to the Jbody community is just a mystery...we can only say the obvious things.

so variable valve timing is out of the question i guess. but the turbo manifold from a 20 WILL bolt on to my 22? if the vvt conversion doesnt work, then i was just going to swap in a turbo system and ECU from a Saab.

The 2.0 isn't turbocharged so it doesn't have a turbo manifold, it's supercharged and the answer is no it won't fit UNLESS you do alot of modifications to try and make it fit. One person did it on the org but it took a little bit of time and knowledge to even attempt it.
The Turbo system & ECU from a Saab I doubt will work. Your talking about 2 different brand of cars...one more luxurious so it has more sensors than our cars and 2 different motors...you especially wouldn't be able to put on a ECU from another car if it doesn't have the same motor.

yea i know but the saab also has a ecotec in it, i assumed that there where only small differences between the 2.0 ecotec s/c cobalt and the 2.0 ecotec turbo saab
i read somehwhere on here that the 2.0 head cant be swapped wihtout a lot of work to the 2.2 block
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!

I've heard a 2.4 ecotec, 171 hp ECOTEC was coming out next year, whats all this talk about a 2.4 eco?

You were misinformed, it's already out now. It's available in the Cobalt SS (non-supercharged). It just came out within this month.

Also people are happy about this motor is because it has VVT (Variable Valve Timing).

yea i really want VVT to mess with the hondas. but what i really want is a turbo for my car... for a cheap price, even though cheap might not be the best way to go. if anyone knows anyone that can fabricate a turbo system for my car, let me know.

When it comes to boost or any other performance upgrade, cheap isn't what you want to go, you want good reliable parts. If you cheap it out in a turbo setup and buy parts seperately, you have a higher chance of having problems. When you buy a turbo kit, they tested everything together and know that it will give you around X amount of HP/TQ gains and you shouldn't have other problems if installed properly. Often they are warrantied for a certain period of time.
Also, VVT is really only great to have if you can manipulate it. With Honda cars, they have all types of Vtec controllers which can send more air in and alter how the cams work. There is currently nothing available for them but hopefully soon someone will try something.

Thanks NJHK, I didn't know that was already around. Side question, do you know if it's got the same interior as the supercharged Cobalt?
yea ur right, but i dont exactly have 3gs to cough up for a damn turbo, and i wont be able to save for a while either. but i agree, the cheap way isnt the best way to go in the long run, so ill just help her breathe a little better first. and ive looked at the cobalts and they look the same to me, except the ss s/c has 18s instead of 17s
the saab 2.0 turbo will fit on the 2.2 no problems.........i did it and now my buddy has it.
but it does work

You can beat them without it.. at least stock for stock depending on the kind of honda.

You need to understand that honda B series engines run the same block across the spectium. GM J engines work diffrently.
