Rough while idealing
Wednesday, August 31, 2005 8:51 PM
I just bought my '99 Cavy 2.2L ohc. I was a police car at one time, so it is moded to an extent...my profile tells all about it...It hauls ass in getting down on it, but it's when I'm cuiseing around town at 30 mph and less that it sounds like hell under the hood. It doesn't feel bad, it just feels rough, but it's incredably smooth when smashing the gas or just cruiseing at any speed over 30 mph.
Does anybody have any suggestions, or may know what is up with this?

Well first, you have a OHV (Overhead Valve) motor not a OHC (Overhead Cam).

If your vehicle is running fine I really don't see any type of problem with it. Did you check to see if there is any type of leaks? I wouldn't be able to explain why it's loud unless I was there.

LOL...I thought the same thing when I bought the car...but it came from South Carolina. I've never been there yet...so I have no idea of what the crime is like there. In Tennessee we have undercover mustanges, camaros, escalades, and corvettes.
Also, thanks for responding in such a short time spand. The car has no leaks. So that's not it...I'm just gonna keep an eye on it and see what happens in a month from now.

I highly dount your car hauls ass with injectors and "tuned ecu" cough cough bs, you car is basically stock and is a 2.2 and its automatic it must be slow as crap compared to your bmw you used to have. No way a stock 2.2 hauls ass

if you have a rough idle, check the gap in your spark plugs, and run some seafoam thru the gas tank. you can get some from your local auto part store

The idleing problem was due to bad bareings in the ideler pulley. It finally broke and is being fixed. So thank you everybody who tried to help me, but I guess we were all wrong.

I possable soulds like the throttle position sensor is slow to respond. First you might want to have your TB cleaned well, then have a Fuel injection cleaning. After that ,run the car and have and get an ODB reading for the sensor.
