i searched but i dont wanna sift through 400 threads so i figured i would ask anyways
i want to go 2.25 inch pipe cat back passanger side exit on my 03 sunfire... now im trying to achieve a deep tone but still be pritty loud all the time. what muff will do this for me? also what is an exhaust resonator? what does it do? do i already have one? if so where is it located? thank you very much jbo
alot of people like magna flow...a resonator will take the buzz out of it, like the civics you see/hear buzzing around, it will just give you a deep tone without the buzz

where is a resonator located on my car or where would it be located on an aftermarket kit
pretty sure that j's don't come stock with a resonator. its an aftermarket addition. a bunch of cat-back systems (i.e. magnaflow...which is what i have) do not have a resonator. i think its usually purchased separately and you can easily weld it onto the piping system after the cat but before the mufflers. resonators are usually referred to as 'glasspacks'. they usually smooth out a tone and give it a deeper sound. definitely a great addition. not sure about the side exit setup you're going for but it seems to me like you'll have to do the custom pipework yourself. you can usually get away with any muffler, even off of ebay, and a resonator will make it sound pretty good. hope this helps out. good luck with your modding.
Blown.

Actually, most cars come with resonators that's why stock cars are so quiet, they have small piping and resonators on them. Glasspack resonators are aftermarket additions, not stock (atleast i can't think of any car that has it stock).
Steve, honestly, side exit exhausts on our cars usually come out terrible looking, have problems as far as interference, usually only look good on cars with body kits with a side skirt cut out and I believe it's illegal in most states (I know in NJ it is atleast).
It's not worth the time and custom work to try and do it but it's your car and your decision.

oh i am finally able to log in... i havnt been able to for a few days WIERD!
as for my exhaust setup plans, i ment to say REAR pasenger side exit. u dont see that very often on sunfires so thats what i want. now should i buy a complete cat back system or should i get pipe bent and get a muff of choice... which would be cheaper?
you're probably gonna have to get it bent cuz all the exhausts u'll find for the sunfires come out the rear driverside
yea, i did notice that...honestly right now im only going for the sound. i prolly wont have my fire too much longer so im going to stop putting $ into it. i might just buy a muff and keep my stock piping, but i have dual exit right now so ill prolly just buy some cheap muffs from ebay, or i might do nothing to it. w/e thanks for all your help jbo
