I want to swap out my 2200 OHV for an ECOTEC, what parts do I
need?
You would need the transmission because the one from the 2200 will not work
on the ECOTEC motor, you will need the ECU, motor mounts (get aftermarket
ones), tranny mounts (if it's a manual, get aftermarket ones), you will need
to either buy an aftermarket header or take the header off that car because
the ECOTECs header is in the back of the motor & the 2200s is in the front
(also they will not fit each other...2 different types of ports), the
ignition system (the 2200 uses spark plug wires, ECOs use a distributor), &
the fuel system.

I did a little search, but everything I found was about a 2000+ swap...

The 95-99 swap is more complex!

Like, I need to changes a lot of things

A lot of wires...

Radiator???

Transmission...

My Car :

2.2l OHV (1997)
Sticky tranny

Parts I have for the moment :

Getrag 5 speed Tranny
Clutch / flywheel
Shifter and shifter cables
Clutch slave cylinder

--------------------

I need the brake master cylinder with ABS
...

What is the "canister"

In my parts list, it says that the canister of a 95-99 is in the front right panel and in a 2003-2005 is in the rear with the gas tank...

There's the parts list I have...

It's in french thought...

Quote:

- moteur 2.2 ecotec 2003 ou 2004
- Transmission Getrag 5 speed
- Support a tranny x2

I'll translate it tomorrow...

Now I have to go to bed, its already 12:34 AM here in Montreal / Quebec / Canada

Thx for your answers guys

I don't think the eco have a distributor either...

And the tranny of the 2200 fits on the eco

2000+ tranny

2200 = 98-02

anyway...

I think the FAQ need to be updated...

anyway...

No, the ECOTEC & 2.4 are distributorless. It's in the Newbie FAQ where it explains what it uses.

But it's written the Newb FAQ that the ecotec use is distributor in the ecotec swap section of the faq...

check the quote LMR put...

it's cleary says :

That part is a Grade A F-Up LOL sorry on my part...a bad type-o

I was more refering to this one:

Newbie FAQ wrote:Q: How come the 2.4 Motor & the ECOTEC don't have spark plug
wires?
They don't have spark plug wires because they are distributorless and use a
"coil on plug" system.

Don't forget to sell the 95-99 and then buy a 02 with the ecotec motor already in it. thats the most important step.

That cop took the whole thing way out of context. I mean, I was only going 145 Km/h in that
80 km/h zone because I was drunk and I wanted to get off the roads.

I won't sale my 95-99

2002 with ecotec = rare and costly

Swapping the new engine in my 95-99 = not that much money.

I already think of changing my car for a newer one...

But after I did the maths, changing my car will cost me more than the swap...

So, I'm going to swap, and after slam that bitch to the ground
