i havent done a thing to my cav just yet, but i know a muffler is definately on the list.
BUT i dont want a freaking fart knocker. i hope you guys know what i am talking about. sorry, but the last car i modded was a V8 and it sounded like a V8. i know i want something stainless but i want it to be quiet, or at least not obnoxious. i dont want the world to hear me tearing it up from a stop light. are there any stainless steel, quiet or refined mufflers out there?
I'd highly suggest Magnaflow mufflers or Borla mufflers (oval style).
Here is a picture of mine:

i had borla on my camaro and corsa on my corvette. i doubt borla would make a muffler that would sound like my car was farting down the road. they make some high quality stuff. i didnt know they made stuff for us though. but i havent looked because i was hoping the forum would know the answer for me.
i hope you guys know what i am talking about and looking for. because a few years ago i just couldnt understand why i was hearing these fart knockers on the road and kept telling myself "do they really think it sounds like a V8?
i never made fun of the rice burners, i just didnt understand the sound of them. granted i came from a ported and polished heads and intake, cammed, headered, 4 inch catback exhaust LS1 engine. (that sounds like a V8)
red 99 coupe.... no rust and it runs.
you can use whatever you want and it will sound low and throaty as long as you dont cut the catalitic converter out, thats what makes it sound like a pissed off weed wacker.

Incorrect. The non-use of a resonator usually makes the exhaust end up with high pitched buzzing. Since i have no idea what a "pissed off weedwhacker" would sound like, i couldnt really compare.
To get a nice sound pick a quality muffler and a bigger then 16'' resonator.
i ended up getting a single rear section from rksport. hopefully i wont regret it. my brother in law bought one from a muffler shop without researching and it is just way too loud. it gets old after a while.

nino, do you know what the single rear section comes with? is it just a small amount of pipe with the magnaflow muffler on it? i was thinking this may be a good idea, because i've read the rksport fitment is good, and also i would have the room to expand with a larger resonator?
i would be very interested to find out how this fits(does hang lower than stock)? what it sounds like? and if anyone already has this type of setup, how they like it?
thanks again guys
dan,
i will post about it after it comes in and gets installed. when speaking to frank at rksport he did say that thier muffler (be it a magnaflow) was throatier and not as whinney as japanese made mufflers. i dont see why anyone couldnt just go to a muffler shop and get a magnaflow installed for about $100. i just bought the muffler through rksport because i purchased $2000 worth of stuff thru them in one sitting.

ok, sounds good nino, i appreciate it. good luck with everything, thanks again
