Body Work or Engine Work?
Friday, November 04, 2005 5:07 PM
I was wondering which step should I take next. I live in Columbia, SC. Right now for those who may not no, we are going threw our fall phase soon to be winter. I have a 4-door kitted Cavy, but it is not painted yet. I was wondering should I wait till Spring time rolls back around to get it painted, or should I just work on turbocharging the motor in the winter, and then just slap the paint on there in the Spring.

Thanks

It alls depends on which way you personally wanna go. Me I would say get paint before a turbo , but if you can afford to do them both at the same time then go for it.

We cant read your mind though and we dont know you personally so we cant tell you what to do to your car.

Finish one project than go to the next, don't step into something without finishing another. Paint the car, then work on performance.

That's my opinion...

in my opinion if you someone drives around with an unpainted kit... its ok to do that for liek a week just to see what the kit can and can't clear before spedning money to paint it all. With that being said, anyone driving aorund with an ynpainted kit for more then a week IS a broke a$$ homosexual

paint the kit or take it off, your embarassing yourself

I live in Lexington, which is very close to you Stevin. Winters here in Columbia/Lexington aren't that harsh, probably more cold than anything else. If we get snow, it rarely ever sticks and the stuff that does stick is usually gone by the afternoon anyway. Personally, I don't see what the problem is driving around with an unpainted kit for a short amount of time because if I get a kit for my car, I'm going to have to do that because I don't have the cash, nor friends who can get that done for me. Now with that said, I think you should just go ahead and get the kit painted and out of the way. There's nothing here in the "midlands" weather that would wreck your freshly painted Cavalier.

However in the end, you must decide what is more important and decide from there.

I'm gonna be different and say turbo then paint. Me being me I would prolly mess up the paint while putting on the turbo. I'd say it depends if u have another car to drive, and if ur just painting the kit. If you don't have another car and ur just painting the kit, then paint it now and turbo later. If you have another car to drive, turbo then paint. If ur painting the whole car, turbo then paint. Just my opinion.

I'm sorry but I don't see how that is possible...

Well I said that figuring he would paint the whole car and I just figured that if I was putting a turbo on my car then I would have a greater chance of messing the paint up due to, slippage, droppage, etc. of tools, turbo, hood, etc.... But if doing just the kit, I'd be fine.

I'm near you too Stevin, I'm in Jefferson, SC. I would do like Dirty Elf said. Take the kit off, Turbo it, and when you have money to get it painted do it. That'd be your best shot. Besides, isn't it a bit harder to paint a car in the cold anyways? Unless you have a climate controlled paintbooth...
