might sound like a stupid question but is a z24 lower then a regular cavalier?

no i dont believe so only thing that would make it "look" lower is the z24 ground effects

On the +03 LS Sport vs. +03 non-LS Sport Cavaliers, the LS Sport Cavaliers sits slightly lower than the non-LS Sport Cavaliers. I don't know if that helps you with your Z24 question, but this was something I noticed when my car was parked beside an LS Sport Cavalier at a car dealership a while back. It's not a real big noticeable difference but a height difference no less.

i think its the ground effects, as my Sunfire GT looks lower than all of the cavalier's i test drove before i bought mine.

The sides are lower w/ side skirts and the rear bumper seemed lower as well, I had to make an extension for my exhaust because it was way beneath the z24 rear, and it wasnt on the reg bumper. But besides that its just the ground effects

mine Z24 came with a stock suspension upgrade i guess you would call it. it was an option and its lower than normal cavs.

^ prove it!

i've seen this get debated a few times already. some claim the Z's sit lower, but others have shown proof that they used the same springs.

is this sitting in the car or looking at it? the roof liner will be a little bit lower if you have a sun roof cause they need the space to get the sunshade and stuff in

My comparision was side by side on an even surface directly parked beside each other. The Chevy emblem on the bumpers looked to be at slightly different heights but it wasn't something that was overly noticeable. It could be just the ground effects but for my money the LS Sport looks to sit lower, but just slightly. I'm going to venture and guess that the LS Sport/Z24 share the same suspension parts, so if someone had a base Cavalier with the Sports package (which included the sports suspension on the Z's/LS Sports) and a regular base Cavalier, they could be sat side by side and a pretty good comparision could be made and a possible answer to this debate could be reached?

Just a thought...

Don't forget too,
95-99 the Zs have 16s. Compared to the regular base models 15s
And some folks on here had 14s too?

"mine Z24 came with a stock suspension upgrade i guess you would call it. it was an option and its lower than normal cavs."

'99 FE2 (Level II) has same springs. Same front struts. Different rear shocks. Bigger front sway bar than level 1 (22mm vs 18mm), welded in rear axle stabilizer, maybe different control arm bushing and steering ratio. Of course Level 0 had no front bar.

See This Thread Which Includes Part Nos.

All 2003 - 05 are Level I or II. 03-05 Level II's were Z24 (Canada), LS Sport, and Sports Appearance cars (US only)

There is only a sight difference in the tire diameters

14" cars have a 628.39 mm diameter tire.
15" cars have a 634.49 mm diameter tire.
16" cars have a 631.69 mm diameter tire

Mine's an FE2 on both of my J's actually, but im not sure what that means for my Sunbird. The Sunfire does seem to sit a little lower in the rear than compared to Base Cavaliers, wheel well clearance is what im refering to. The handling part i can agree with, she does handle quite well, although sometimes i do feel im in a minivan through corners..

damnit i think i just relized why mine is lower....we have been thinking that level 2 is on all Z24s......so my guess is that the regular cavaliers and regular Z24s sit at the same height. my Z24 sits lower because of the actual package/option i have of "level 2 sports" suspension, regular cavaliers might have been able to get it too.....

i think that clears this topic up now eh?

Yeah i think wheel size has alot to do with it to. Z24 wheels are seem to close up the wheel gap alot better than stock cavs.

Ok I have a 2002 cavalier 2.2 ecotec I live in Canada so its still called a Z24 for what ever reason, so how would I go about finding out what level suspension is on my car?

I have one true love in my life...And my girlfriend sits next to me in it
